Brandywine River Museum's Christmas display features model trains & whimsical ornaments

Get on the train for some affordable family fun to get in the holiday spirit in Chadds Ford.

The Brandywine River Museum’s “A Brandywine Christmas” features an interactive, hands-on holiday display including locomotives, ornaments and other holiday favorites.

Starting Nov. 23 through Jan. 6 kids of all ages can smile with delight as more than 150 O-gauge model trains and 300 model freight cars on nearly 2,000 feet of track. The display is nearly 30 years in the making and you can check out the “Train Cam” to see what to expect.

In addition to the tree, be amazed by stunning towering fir trees that will include hundreds of whimsical critter ornaments made from natural materials by conservatory volunteers.

But beyond the tradition, comes the holiday thrills. Be sure to check out Pop-Up! Illustration in 3-D, a virtual selection of pop-up books that range from late 19th century to the present. This visual experience incorporates an element of surprise and the excitement of motion, pop-up books that will definitely delight the young and the young at heart.

And don't miss the museum's collection of regional and American art.

The museum is located on Route 1 in Chadds Ford. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors ages 65 and over; students, and children; and free for children 6 and under and for Brandywine Conservancy members.
