Bring the Force With You

The Vader Project is auctioning off 100 Darth Vader helmets.

"Star Wars" fans and art enthusiasts unite! The Vader Project is ending its three-year tour in the city of brotherly love.

The project gave full-scale "Star Wars" Darth Vader helmets to 100 underground artists and designers to customize their own versions of the iconic figure.

On July 10, Freeman’s of Philadelphia is auctioning off the helmets, which sport a hefty price tag. The helmets range in price form $3,000 to $15,000.

If you don’t have a couple thousand dollars burning a hole in your pocket, you still have one last chance to get a glimpse of the fabulous head gear.

The exhibition will run starting July 5 and continue until July 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. before the helmets are auctioned off the next day at noon.

“From a simple idea in 2005 to a record-setting exhibition in 2009, it’s time for our child to venture forth into the world,” said the curators and producers of the project, Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys.

Since its premiere in 2007, The Vader Project has been displayed at "Star Wars" conventions and museums from Los Angeles to Japan.

“The result is astounding” said Pop Culture Specialist at Freeman’s, Simeon Lipman. “The sale will give members of the public the chance to purchase unique artworks made from these iconic symbols of the movie industry by a number of well known artists including Shag, Marc Ecko, Tim Biskup, Frank Kozik and many more.”
