The interior of Beige & Beige is all about luxury. There’s a unique European flavor to the restaurant, helped along by the fusion of refined elegance (upholstered chaise lounge-style seating) and youthful energy (Euro-Pop music thumping in the background). Subtle touches of class define the dining experience at Beige & Beige, the fabric covered ceiling, the delicate bread slices with shredded butter and the extra-attentive wait staff.
I was a little disappointed that there weren’t the fresh cut flower bouquets at each table that I had heard so much about. But the appetizers made up for it: The Caesar Salad was crisp and creamy and perfectly prepared. My dining companion was given the wrong soup; instead of the Miso he had ordered he received a scrumptious seafood soup, filled with salmon chunks and mussels and was happy with the mix-up.
For a self-described French restaurant, there are some inconsistent touches like a full sushi bar, dishes inspired by Russian and Asian cuisine and few traditional French dishes. But somehow the mish-mash works. The lunch menu includes a Hoisin Glazed Ahi Tuna Burger with wasabi mayo, pineapple and pickled ginger relish, Paninis and Salmon omelets.
A “comfort foods” menu featuring feel-goods like Borche, Potato Dumplings and Rabbit Stew is available for both lunch and dinner. The dinner menu includes dishes like Lobster Mashed Potatoes, Smoked Eel and Pistachio-Crusted Duck Breast.
My lunch entre was impeccable: a Spinach, Mozzarella and Tomato Crepe that was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. It was topped with a creamy pink sauce and accompanied by a unique coleslaw-style salad that I can’t wait to have again. My partner was satisfied with his California Combo sushi dish and at the end of the meal we were too full to go for dessert.
