King of Cakes Wins “Next Great Baker”

They call him “Sugar Daddy”, but now he he can add the “Next Great Baker” to his titles.

Bear, Del.'s Dana Herbert won TLC's Next Great Baker on Monday night.

Herbert, 34, took the opportunity to compete in challenges with nine other bakers over a two-month period and brought home the crown.

“I've been dreaming of this moment ever since I started this competition,” Herbert told Delaware Online.

Winning the title came with a cash prize of $50,000, a new car and a once in a lifetime apprenticeship with Buddy “Cake Boss” Valestro.

Herbert is “going to be a great addition to the Carlo’s Bakery family,” Valestro said.

Herbert intends to use his winnings to fund his daughters college education, he said.

He and his wife are expecting a baby girl in less then a month, said Delaware Online.

Herbert, a native of Washington D.C, graduated from the University of Delaware.

He is the Head Chef of the Delaware River and Bay Authority. As the Owner and Pastry Chef of Desserts By Dana, he has had the luxury to create cakes for Jill Biden, Jimmy Rollins and Dick Vermeil.
