Eagles Ink Former Nittany Lion

The Eagles didn’t have to look far to find another safety to fill-in for a depleted secondary.

Former Penn State safety and West Deptford High School product Anthony Scirrotto was signed Monday night. He takes Antoine Harris’ spot on the roster after the Birds place Harris on injured reserve with a Lis Franc foot sprain.

Scirrotto, a 6-foot, 202-pounder, was signed last season by the Panthers and then spent time on the Giants practice squad. But he never appeared in a regular season game.

The 23-year-old Jersey native was twice a first-team All-Big Ten selection.

Likely Scirrotto won’t make the 53-man roster with Quintin Mikell, Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman seemingly making the cut and Quintin Demps or Macho Harris taking the final safety spot. But the Birds could hide the local guy away on practice squad as a security blanket in case one of the other guys gets hurt or is ineffective.
