All That Jazz

Philly celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month this April.

The weather is beautiful, so why not put a little swing in your step?

It’s Jazz Appreciation Month and Philly is celebrating in style with a calendar full of events. Originally launched by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, this is the 10th year for the celebration.

One of many highlights will be “Jazz Nights in the Plaza.” The weekly event kicks off at the Kimmel Center, on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

Partnering with the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA), guests will enjoy performances from local jazz groups and complimentary wine and crêpes.

The music plays on with “Record Store Day” on April 16. The day of festivities will feature barbecues, meet and greets with various artists, live music, and special promotions at participating record stores.

Other highlights will include jam sessions every Monday with acclaimed pianist Orrin Evans at World Café Live, “Art After 5” on April 29, featuring the Philadelphia Freedom Jazz Orchestra, and a host of other citywide events

April is about more than just the music, Jazz Appreciation Month also aims to promote the history and heritage of a celebrated art form.
