A Monk and 16 Horses Walk Into a Bar

Keep on keepin' on during Philly Beer Week. Today is a good one for the fans of big brews, with intense offerings from Avery Brewing, Port Brewing, and Christ in the Desert around town.

3 P.M. until 11 P.M.
16 Dark Horse Tap Takeover, Hawthorne's- Pay As You Go
Dark Horse Brewing is fairly new to the Philly beer scene, but they've collected a strong cult following for their creative brews. At 5 P.M. the Dark Horse crew will be on hand to help you taste each of the following: Black Bier, Boffo, Crooked Tree, Double Crooked Tree, Fore, So In Oats, Sapient, Super Juice, Raspberry, Ginger In Your Pants, Uber Boober, Raspberry Eis Black, West Michigan Ale, AK-47, Raspberry Lambdick and WGRD. Many of these beers have never been available on draft in Philly before this event, so get to it.

5 P.M. until 7 P.M.
Yards' "Karma Factor" Finale, City Tap House - Pay As You Go
One of the cooler events during this long-ass celebration of suds is the release of the Yards' Karma Factor beer. Leading up to this big unveiling, homebrewers competed to recreate one of the famous Yards' flagship beers, and the entries were judged by owner Tom Kehoe. The winner was invited to brew a collaboration beer for Philly Beer Week on the Yards' system with Kehoe and Co. Well, this is the end of the line, and we all get a taste of the Karma Factor brew, which is a Belgian I.P.A. made with Sorachi Ace hops.

5 P.M. until 7 P.M.
Monastery of Christ in the Desert, Monk's Cafe - Pay As You Go
Tom Peters' Monk's Cafe is the home of Belgian beer in Philly and where so many of our local beer nerds cut their teeth. Peters is also famous for bringing in reclusive brewers, most of which are actual monks. Today, Monk's welcomes Brother Christian Leisy from the Monastery of Christ in the Desert in New Mexico. He will be bringing three brews, including the Monk's Ale, Monk's Wit, and Monk's Tripel. No need to bring any money for the offering plate, but please don't use the bathroom as a confessional.

6:30 P.M. until 9:30 P.M.
Drink and Eat with Tomme Arthur of Port Brewing/Lost Abbey, Osteria - Pay As You Go
Tomme Arthur of Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey is one of the rockstar brewers hanging around town this week, and you can catch him at one of Philly's finest restaurants, Osteria. Arthur will be pouring Lost Abbey Red Barn, Port Wipeout, Port Anniversary Double IPA and Lost Abbey Angel's Share and you can expect great pairings with the amazing eats by Jeff Michaud.

7 P.M. until 10 P.M
