A British Designer's Secret Talent

Between a well-received line for Macy's and a spring bridal launch, British designer Matthew Williamson has proved he has a serious talent for summery dresses and gorgeous wedding gowns, but it turns out he's also got a serious talent for Latin dancing.

We caught up with the designer, who proved much more thoughtful (and much less snarky) than reports of his publicly critiquing Kate Middleton's personal style would lead one to believe. (To be fair, he later told us that he expected her choice would be "simple and elegant" when we pressed him for predictions a few months back.)

Around minute 1:19, we coulnd't decide if we should offer him a cigarette or a turn around a a samba floor. We were tempted to share both.

What do you crave most?
Cigarettes.

What won’t you share?
Um. Nothing. I”ll share anything.

What makes you angry?
Bad manners.

What great idea should have been yours?
God that’s a tough one. Hmmm. What great idea should have been mine ... I”ll have to come back to you on that one.

Do you know your limits?
Yes. Definitely.

If you were going to win a medal tomorrow, what would it be for?
To win a medal? Um. For my dancing skills.

Can you give me style? I’m sorry, I had to ask.
[Cracks up.] Hmm. Latin.

What has been on your to-do list for the longest time? So many things. Where do you want to start? We could start with yoga. To cook more, to garden, to paint...all manner of things.

You'll find Matthew Williams' Capsule Collection at Macy's; look for it at the Cherry Hill, Willow Grove, and Center City Macy's locations.
