1 Dead, 1 Critical After Philly Shootings

A man was shot and killed while an armed woman is in critical condition after a series of shootings on the 2800 and 2900 block of Judson Street.

One man is dead and one woman is in critical condition after a series of shootings on Judson Street in Philadelphia.

Police say that a 24-year-old man was shot nine times around 5 p.m. on Friday on the 2900 block of Judson Street. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:31 p.m. No word yet on any motive.

Around an hour later and only a block away, investigators say that a 48-year-old woman was shot by police on the 2800 block of Judson Street.

Police say that the woman was armed with a steak knife and was chasing her boyfriend down the street. She then allegedly refused to drop her weapon when she was approached by police.

"After several more orders for her to drop the knife she then turned towards the police and lunged towards the officer," said Chief Inspector Small of the Philadelphia Police. "The 39th District Officer discharged one time, striking the female in the chest."

She was taken to Temple University Hospital where she is in critical condition.
