1,729 AC Casino Workers Handed Layoff Notices

The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel says the notices are just a formality as part of the casino's pending sale

Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in Atlantic City has filed notice that 1,729 employees may lose their jobs.

The company says the layoff notice is a formality as part of a pending sale to the world's largest online poker website and no job cuts are planned.

Rational Group US Holdings, the parent company of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, is asking New Jersey casino regulators for permission to buy Atlantic Club for an undisclosed amount.

Atlantic Club's COO issued a statement saying the layoff notices are required by law.

Atlantic City's largest casino union president Bob McDevitt tells The Press of Atlantic City that Atlantic Club's employees are not expected to see any major changes in the workforce when ownership changes hands.
