Move Over California! Local Wineries That Rock

There's no need to spend all that cash to go to the Napa Valley this summer! We've got tons of top notch wineries right around the corner that offer tours and tastings. 

And if you're too busy to go for a day of tasting, why not enjoy a bottle at home? These wineries have great selections of wines for every occasion. 

Plus, most of the wines they offer are extremely affordable. Prices range from $10 to $30 per bottle.

Buckingham Valley Vineyards
Rt. 413, Bucks County, Pa.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays

Buckingham Valley Vineyards offers over a dozen varieties of red and white wines.

If you are headed there on a date or with a small group of friends your tasting is free. Butt larger groups, 10 or more, you’ll have to pay up for your tasting (and make sure to make a reservation!)

For all you wine lovers, the vineyard will be one of many participants in the 2009 Bucks County Wine Tour on Sunday May 31 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 And as an added bonus, from June 10 to September 31 they will be having a new outdoor sculpture exhibit--and it's free.

New Hope Winery
6123 Lower York Road, New Hope, Pa. 
Hours: Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on Wednesdays), Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New Hope Winery has been a successful and well-known winery since 1933.

If you are interested in the Bucks County Wine Tour on May 31, this place will also be participating.

And if you are down for some fun and music they’re hosting a Thursday Night Concert Series on June 4 and 18, and July 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sand Castle Winery
755 River Road, Erwinna, Pa.
Hours: Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Like the above wineries, this place will also be a stop in the 2009 Bucks County Wine Tour.

And if you are out and about at different fairs and events this summer, look for Sand Castle Winery because they are attending a lot of fun activities like the Taste of PA Wine and Music at the York, Pa. Fair Grounds on May 30 and 31.

If you are looking for a romantic date spot the winery recently opened their outdoor terrace, which has a California winery ambiance. 

Chaddsford Winery
632 Baltimore Pike in Chaddsford, Pa.
Hours: Open all year round (except for major holidays of course!) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Need a great place to take Dad on Father’s Day? Visit the winery for Father’s Day Weekend and dad gets a free Chaddsford tasting glass and a free tasting! Doesn’t get much better than that!

Join the winery for Sangria Sundays on July 12, 19, and 26 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.  

Nassau Valley Vineyards
32165 Winery Way, Lewes, Del.
Hours: Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Nassau Valley Vineyards is Delaware’s first and only award winning winery. If you are interested in tours and tasting this spot has them year round.

If you like to travel solo or with a few friends you can take a self-guided tour of the winery free. Otherwise, you can choose the guided tour route with friends for only $7.

Cape May Winery and Vineyard
711 Townbank Road, Cape may, NJ 08204
Hours: Open daily January through December from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and in June through September 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

If you are down the shore this summer stop by Cape May Winery and Vineyard.

For just $5 you can sip on some wine and keep the glass! And feel free to take a self-guided tour around the vineyard!

If you think all that’s great, then you will love that the winery hosts “Champagne” Sundays where visitors can lounge with a glass of sparkling wine or a mimosa for just $3! How’s that for affordable?

Alba Vineyard
269 Route 627 Village of Finesville, Milford, N.J.
Hours: Sunday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Alba Vineyard was awarded the 2008 Winery of the Year. Even though they took the top spot last year, they still sell affordable wine--some are even below $10!

If you are interested in tasting, the vineyard offers wine tasting for $5.

Do you love music? Then you will want to attend Music Under the Arbor on Sunday, May 31 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. And if you need a great place to take dad on Father’s Day, Alba Vineyard will be holding a Father’s Day Festival on Sunday, June 21 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Amalthea Cellars
209 Vineyard Road, Atco, N.J.
Hours: Tuesday through Thursday (By appointment only), Saturday and Sunday 11a.m. to 5p.m.

The winery offers a range of red and white wines and tastings are held Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Balic Winery
6623 Route 40, Mays Landing, N.J.
Hours: Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Balic Winery makes more then 27 award winning wines.

This place is a must see! Grab some friends or that special someone and go for a tasting any day of the week.

Cedarville Winery
205 Repaupo Station Rd., Logan Township, N.J.
Hours: Thursday through Friday from 12 p.m. to7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cedarville Winery offers a variety of red, white and fruit wines. They are now offering their vintage wine collection from 2006 and 2007.

Tastings are offered Thursday to Sunday or you can call and make an appointment to fit your schedule!
