Library of Congress Presents Romance Fiction Conference

The Library of Congress and Harlequin Enterprises are steaming up — make that, teaming up — to present a conference on romance fiction in the digital age.

The two-day conference in Washington opens Tuesday night with the screening of a feature-length documentary film, Love Between the Covers, about the worldwide community of romance novel readers, authors, editors, bloggers and fans.

Filmmaker Laurie Kahn is on Wednesday's agenda, followed by panel discussions moderated by faculty members of McDaniel College and Princeton and Fordham universities.

The library's Center for the Book is hosting the event. Director John Cole says the conference will unite authors, scholars and fans to explore the changing dynamics of the genre, its relevance in popular culture and how digital technology is shaping the future of romance fiction.
