Winterfest Holiday Tree Shining Bright at Penn's Landing

Live music and dance performances, fireworks and of course the lighting of the Holiday Tree kicked off the season along Philadelphia's waterfront

The biggest and best holiday tree in Philadelphia is shining bright at Penn's Landing as the NBC10 News Today team flipped the switch to light the evergreen and kick off the holiday season.

The 45 foot tall Colorado blue spruce is Winterfest's centerpiece towering over the Blue Cross RiverRink. More than 50,000 energy-efficient LED lights are strung along the branches of the two and a half ton tree.

Latin vocalists VIVA MÁS, violinist Instrument of Grace, acapella singers Broad Street Beat are just a few of the musicians who performed at the special event that aired live on NBC10 Friday evening.

Figure skating dance champions Shay and Yovanny also took to the ice and on the blacktop, The Lady Hoofers, tapped away a routine.

NBC10 News Today anchors Tracy Davidson, Vai Sikahema, Bill Henley and Jessica Boyington hosted the program. Ol' Saint Nick was on hand to help flip the 6-foot tall switch and energize the lights.

With a bit of magic from Santa Claus, the Winterfest Holiday Tree’s 50,000 LED lights were turned on Friday night for the 2016 season.

A fireworks display over the Delaware River capped off the special event.
