    Philadelphia and its surrounding towns always have something going on. Whether it’s a folk, Caribbean or India festival, talent contest, concert or fireworks show, Philly and the Shore in the summer are filled with fun. We’ve found the top (and affordable) choices of what to do this weekend, Aug. 17-19, in and around Philadelphia and down the shore.

    Philadelphia Folk Festival

    Musicians, storytellers, artisans and more will be in attendance at this merry festival. There will be plenty of food and drinks as well.

    Where: Old Poole Farm, 1323 Salford Station Road, Schwenksville, Pa.

    When: Thursday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 19

    Harlem Globetrotters International

    Check out one of these four, family-friendly high energy shows.

    Where: Wildwood Convention Center, 4501 Boardwalk, Wildwood N.J.

    When: Wednesday, Aug. 15 through Saturday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.

    Friday Night Fireworks in Wildwood

    Grab a blanket or a beach chair and head to the beach to watch this awesome fireworks display every Friday through the summer.

    Where: Pine Avenue and the Beach, Wildwood, N.J.

    When: Friday, Aug. 17 at 10 p.m.

    Cost: Free


    The Great Potato Dig

    Dig your very own Jersey Fresh potatoes on the farm and then enjoy hayrides, animal visits and more fun on the farm.

    Where: Coombs Barnyard, 20 Route 77, Elmer, N.J.

    When: Friday, Aug. 17 through Friday, Aug. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m.

    Wildwoods Got Talent

    This four-week talent contest will feature singers, dancers, magicians, musicians, comics and more. Judges and the audience vote on the winners each week and decide who moves on to the finals. The Grand Finale takes place on Aug. 24 with a $1,000 grand prize. Bring a beach chair or blanket, there’s no designated seating at the venue but there are food vendors.

    Where: Fox Park Amphitheater, 4400 Ocean Avenue, Wildwood, N.J.

    When: Friday, Aug. 17 from 7 to 10 p.m.

    Baseball on the Beach

    Join one of these "sandlot" style baseball games on the beach.

    Where: Beach between Andrews and Rio Grande avenues, Wildwood, N.J.

    When: Friday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Outdoor Movie Screenings in Philadelphia: Princess and the Frog

    Where: Trolley Car Diner

    When: Saturday, Aug. 18 at 10 minutes before sunset

    40th Street Summer Series

    University City’s popular concert series returns for the summer with live performances and free giveaways. The York Street Hustle with Three Aksha will perform this Saturday.

    Where: Walnut Street Library lawn, 40th and Walnut, Philadelphia

    When: Saturday, August 18, Sept 15 at 6 p.m.

    Festival of India

    Celebrate India’s Independence Day with a daylong showcase of Indian culture through dance, art, music, food and more.

    Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia

    When: Saturday, Aug. 18 from noon to 7 p.m.

    Village Field Day

    This interactive and educational family-friendly event will have kids and adults enjoying games (like sack races and Bocce ball) dating back to the 1800s.

    "Beatlemania Again" Live in Concert

    Relive the music and the mania of the Beatles at this live concert event.

    Caribbean Festival

    The islands will come to you with this colorful festival. Find Caribbean souvenirs, crafts, lots of food and musical and dance performances throughout the festival.
