May ‘The Force Be With' My Son's Excuse From Pennsylvania School

The head of a central Pennsylvania school district says a student received an unexcused absence after his father wrote a three-page note that included references to Star Wars moves.

John Morrell and his son Brock dressed up to see the newest movie in the series at a Lancaster County movie theater. Brock attends Central Manor Elementary in the Penn Manor School District.

Morrell tells WHTM-TV that he wrote his son a note because he didn't want to disturb "the force" or upset school administrators. He says the letter expressed how much fun they had by making it appear as if they went on an adventure.

Dr. Mike Leichliter, superintendent of the district, says Brock's absence was marked unexcused, but likely would've been excused if it had been submitted beforehand.
