Star Sparkles Atop 2014 Rockefeller Center Tree

A sparkling Swarovski Star was lifted into place Thursday atop the towering Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

The star is adorned with 25,000 crystals and measures nearly 10 feet in diameter.

The tree is being decorated with more than 45,000 LED lights in preparation for the annual "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" illumination ceremony Dec. 3.

The annual tree-lighting event at Rockefeller Center attracts tens of thousands of people and is watched by millions more on television. The ceremony has been held since 1933.
