South Jersey Radio Legend Calls Out Sick for 1st Time in 50+ Years

An 88-year-old New Jersey radio host has missed his show for the first time in 57 years.

Pinky Kravitz called out sick from WOND-AM in Atlantic City on May 15. He hadn't felt right when he woke up, so his wife drove him to the hospital.

Longport Media President and General Manager Dave Coskey tells The Press of Atlantic City Kravitz underwent heart surgery Monday.

The prognosis is good for the New Jersey Broadcasters Hall of Fame member, Coskey said.

"I can tell you that in the past, Pinky has done his show from a hospital without anyone knowing that he was doing it from a hospital, including his doctors, I would imagine," Coskey said.

It isn't clear when Kravitz will return to the air.
