Patti LaBelle treated the crowd gathered to honor her musical legacy by breaking into song.
The legendary soul singer sang part of her hit "Love, Need and Want You" as a stretch of Broad Street was renamed for her during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
The thoroughfare between Locust and Spruce streets now will be called “Patti LaBelle Way.”
"Philadelphia, gosh," said LaBelle. "So many people have walked this street, from Philadelphia, all over the world."
She mentioned her close family ties to the city, saying her sister and niece had walked Broad Street. "My mother and father, before they passed, they would walk this street. And all I can say is, if you have a dream in life, don't ever think that ... anything is too big for you."
"You can get it all," said LaBelle, who spoke several times with fans calling out to her from the crowd.

“Lady Marmalade” was LaBelle’s first No. 1 hit when she was the lead singer of LaBelle. She also had a successful solo career with hits like “You Are My Friend” and “New Attitude.”
Sometimes referred to as “The Godmother of Soul,” LaBelle has won two Grammy Awards and has appeared on TV shows like “American Horror Story: Freak Show” in addition to her cooking show, “Patti LaBelle’s Place.”
Her cooking and baking have become legendary, and her pies and cakes are available at Walmart.
