“Mad Men” Cast Defends Jon Hamm's Kardashian Comments

It's no surprise which side of the war of words Hamm's co-workers fall.

Jon Hamm's recent online war of words with reality TV star Kim Kardashian was a bit of a surprise. His "Mad Men" cast mates backing him up, less so.

The cast of the AMC drama appeared on the "Today" show this morning, and there was no avoiding Hamm's infamous comments. In an Elle UK magazine interview, Hamm complained that "stupidity is being celebrated" in American culture, and used Kardashian as an example of how "being a f***ing idiot is a valuable commodity."

Kardashian fired back via Twitter, calling Hamm's comments "careless."

"I don't think they were careless. I think they were accurate," Hamm told "Today" host Matt Lauer.

"It's a part of our culture that I certainly don't identify with," he continued. "And I don't really understand the appeal of it other than in a sort of car crash sensibility, and it's not something that I partake in or enjoy, but it is what it is, and here we are."

Hamm's co-star, Vincent Kartheiser, spoke up to support Hamm.

"I agree," said Kartheiser. "He said it very eloquently. I agree with everything he said. I think our society enjoys to turn on the television and see someone who's maybe awful and they can say, 'Maybe I'm not as terrible as that person.' "

"Mad Men" returns with a two-hour premiere on Sunday at 9 PM ET on AMC
