Johnny Depp Rocks the House at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Celebrates win with an electric guitar and The Black Keys

Johnny Depp, probably the most successful failed musician in Hollywood, celebrated his 2012 MTV Movie Award in style.

Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, the lead guitarist and singer of Aerosmith, respectively, took the stage to present Depp with the 2012 MTV Generation Award, in recognition of the actor's body of work, introducing a lengthy montage of Depp’s films from his career.

Rather than taking the microphone to acknowledge his latest trophy, Depp celebrated by strapping on an electric guitar and rocking out with The Black Keys for a house-shaking rendition of “Gold on the Ceiling,” from their album “Brothers."

As the final chords wound down, Tyler handed Depp his award and said, “It’s all about you, Johnny,” before leaning forward to launch something from between his famous lips, causing Depp to laugh.

“Steven just spit out one of my teeth,” explained Depp. “I’ll put it back in later. I gotta thank MTV for this—it’s quite an amazing honor. It’s like the Get Out of the Business Award, basically—it’s like, OK you’ve done too much. And clearly, based on the clips, there’s obviously something wrong with me. I just want to thank you very much. It’s an honor to be presented by these two legends and these two up and coming legends.”

And with that, Depp and The Black Keys ripped into “Lonely Boy.”

This is the second high-profile gig Depp has played in the past month. Following the world premiere of his latest film, “Dark Shadows,” Depp joined co-star Alice Cooper, as well as Tyler and Perry, on stage for a 30–minute set. Among the songs they played were Cooper’s "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "School's Out,” as well as the Beatles song “Come Together,” which Aerosmith famously covered for the film “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
