Jonah Hill (L) and Katy Perry present the award for Favorite Movie Actress onstage at Nickelodeon's 23rd Annual Kids' Choice Awards. On the right arm of Hill is a scar that the actor said changed his life.

Jonah Hill wasn't always on a path to movie stardom and has the scar to prove it.

Hill, 27, who had two movies open this month, "Get Him to the Greek" and a branching out role in "Cyrus," opened up to Rolling Stone about the mysterious scar on his right arm.  The deep scar covers his forearm and wraps around his elbow to disappear under his shirt.

"This is one of the biggest things ever in my life," Hill told the magazine referring to the scar.

While in middle school, the actor found out his mother was suffering from cancer.  His grades dropped and he began smoking weed, skateboarding and rebelling.

At 15, when he and a friend went on a joyride in an SUV a terrible accident changed his life around.

His friend recklessly turned the steering wheel back and forth, swerving the vehicle, while Hill's arm reached out the passenger door window. Losing control, the SUV flipped over injuring Hill.

All Hill remembers from the accident was waking up on a hospital bed, listening to doctors decide whether or not to amputate his arm.

But the worse part, Hill told the magazine, was seeing the faces of his parents, especially his crying mom.

"I said to myself, 'I'll never let them down ever again," Hill told Rolling Stone.  "So I look at this scar every day. That reminds me to work hard."
