Tom Petty's Daughter Mourns Father on Social Media

Tom Petty, known for hits such as "Free Fallin'," "American Girl" and "Into the Great Wide Open," died Monday night . He was 66. Petty sold over 80 million records during his decades in the music business.

Of the countless tributes that have poured in since the passing of rock icon Tom Petty, none have been more heartfelt that those coming from his daughter, AnnaKim Violette Petty, who took to Instagram Monday to share pictures of her father with his legions of fans.

"96 tears was the first song my dad taught me to play. Thank you for all the love this has been the longest day of my life," Petty wrote.

Petty, 66, died Monday night at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles a day after he suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu, California, spokeswoman Carla Sacks said.

Petty and his longtime band the Heartbreakers had recently completed a 40th anniversary tour. Among his many hits were "Free Fallin,' "Refugee" and "American Girl."
