“Real Housewives” Star Pleads Guilty in Fraud Case, Admits “Series of Mistakes”

A married couple who star on the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" pleaded guilty to fraud in court Tuesday, and the wife said she was taking responsibility "for a series of mistakes" made several years ago.

Teresa and Joe Giudice face prison time after each pleading guilty to several counts including bankruptcy fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud, and failing to pay taxes.

Sentencing was set for July 8.

Under federal guidelines, Joe Giudice faces a potential sentence of 37 to 46 months and Teresa Giudice could get 21 to 27 months.

"Today I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago," Teresa Giudice said in a statement.

She added that she intends to address the court in detail at her sentencing.

"I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family -- especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world," her statement said.

The couple was accused last year of exaggerating income while applying for loans before the show debuted in 2009, then hiding their fortunes in a bankruptcy filing after their first season aired.

They were also accused of submitting fraudulent mortgage and loan applications and fabricating tax returns and W-2 forms.
