Bella Hadid Body Shamed for Appearance in New Video

The video in which Hadid's hip bones were visible has sparked a body-shaming debate between her critics and fans

Model Bella Hadid is once again the target of online criticism because of her physical appearance.

Love Magazine posted a Youtube video of Hadid posing in two black bathing suits as part of its 50-video “moving image issue.” In one gem-studded bathing suit, her pointy hip bones are clearly visible as she describes her experience accepting her own appearance.

“When I felt most beautiful was very recently in the past two years when my health was at its best,” Hadid says in the video. “I just felt very comfortable in my own being, instead of looking for the person who I should be through others.”

But despite Hadid’s assertion that she feels healthy and beautiful, some social media users criticized her for her appearance, with some going so far as to accuse her of possibly having an eating disorder.

“This is disgusting, as a worldwide magazine you have a responsibility to young girls,” one Instagram user commented on Love Magazine’s video. “You’re here giving a platform to a malnourished woman.”

Other users noted that Hadid had lost a lot of weight and looked “skinnier” and “too thin.”

Some users appeared to agree with the observation, but they also said that calling Hadid “unhealthy” and “skeletal” was a form of body-shaming.

“This is body-shaming,” another user wrote. “And not affecting only her but lots of girls like me that can’t change their bodies and get bullied everyday for being that skinny.”

This isn’t the first time Hadid has been criticized because of her body shape.

In November, Hadid posted a photo on Instagram of her in a black lingeries set in preparation for the Victoria's Secret fashion show, which she recently walked in.

Social media users said she looked “too skinny” and was “all bones,” possibly in response to the faint visibility of Hadid’s ribs in the photo.

In the photo caption, Hadid assured she was “feeling happier and healthier than ever.”

Hadid was also diagnosed with Lyme disease, a flea-borne illness, three years ago, a fact which one Instagram user pointed out.

Although some people infected with the disease have reported experiencing rapid weight gain or weight loss, Hadid seemed to imply in her November Instagram post about her Victoria Secret fitting that her new look is the result of exercise.

“All body types are different and react differently to a great workout routine and a healthy diet,” Hadid wrote in the post.
