‘American Idol' Reveals Shocking Bottom 3 Before Sending Another Contender Home

"American Idol" had its most shocking results show of the season on Wednesday night when frontrunner Adam Lambert and teen-favorite Kris Allen ended up in the bottom three alongside Matt Giraud.

Matt was eventually sent on his way, but not before the show's panel of judges expressed total shock over Adam's appearance in the bottom three, and later, his reduction to the bottom two.

"My mouth went open again," judge Kara DioGuardi said when Adam first learned the news.

"It's crazy! This is crazy!" Paula Abdul exclaimed.

And it was the unveiling of Adam's place in the bottom three that made Wednesday's results show so jaw dropping.

Like he did on previous season's, Ryan Seacrest separated the final five into two and two – Kris and Matt on one side, and Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey on the other. Ryan then asked Adam, who was in the middle of the stage, to pick the group he thought he belonged in.

After dwelling on it for a moment, and not doing what David Archuleta did last season – staying put in the center of the stage – Adam moved to Danny and Allison's side.

"Based on last night, probably that group," he said, walking over to the twosome.

Ryan then pulled him over to the other side and revealed Matt, Kris and Adam as the bottom three.

After performances from guest musicians Natalie Cole and former "American Idol" Taylor Hicks, Ryan told Kris he had been saved to sing again, revealing the bottom two as Matt and Adam.

Later, following a performance from guest mentor Jamie Foxx, Ryan asked "The Soloist" actor if America got the bottom two correct.

"I've hung with these guys and shared with them and it doesn't matter right now," Jamie said, pleading for America to give all the "Idol" hopefuls a chance following the show. "It's what's gonna happen after this."

It was then that Matt learned his fate.

"I'll definitely remember being the cat with nine lives," Matt said, wiping a tear from his eye. "It's definitely not the last time you'll see me… I wanna thank Kalamazoo, Mich. For supporting me and the judges for seeing something in me."

And Kara once again stood up for the decision to save Matt from elimination just two weeks ago.

"I have been a fan and one of the best thing's we've done this season is save you," she smiled.
