Kelly Osbourne: I Was a Teen Drug Addict

Pals nicknamed the half-conscious, drug-addicted singer "Noddy," she said

Kelly Osbourne confessed that she was a pill-popping teen drug addict who downed so many pain-killers she's surprised she didn't overdose, according to her new book.

The daughter of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne said she was prescribed Vicodin and soon began taking up to 50 a day to help her cope with her skyrocketing stardom during the taping of the MTV reality series "The Osbournes," according to her new book "Fierce."

"By this point I was waking up and emptying six Vicodin into my hand. Soon I was taking 50 pills a day. Most people would overdose on 10. My friends called me 'Noddy' because I fell asleep all the time," she said in the book, according to Popeater.

The addiction, which began when she was 17, only got worse when her mother Sharon was diagnosed with cancer, she said.

"My parents suspected. Mum would say, 'Darling, are you taking something? Please tell your mummy.' But I was good at lying," she wrote. "I was trying to be so strong so I took Vicodin to hide the terrible sadness."

Osbourne, now 24, has been to rehab four times and admitted in the tome that the first time she had an opiate at age 13 when she had her tonsils removed she loved the feeling it gave her.

"When I swallowed that tiny dose, I felt relaxed and contented," she wrote.

Her parents eventually found out about her addiction and sent her to Malibu's Promises clinic, where she spent 30 days in treatment. But Osbourne said she wasn't ready for the program and landed in three different facilities.

The last treatment facility helped her to realize that she had a problem.

"After 30 days, I left rehab. For the first time, I felt hopeful. I knew I'd been given another chance at my life, at my career, at happiness. I wanted to grab it," she wrote.
