Christina Aguilera Talks Divorce: “Things Were So Unhealthy”

Christina Aguilera is opening up about her recent divorce – and the new love in her life.

In an interview with People, the pop star turned “Burlesque” actress said she was “torn” about whether to pull the plug on her dysfunctional five-year marriage to music exec Jordan Bratman.

"Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it," she told People. "I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up."

Aguilera, who filed for divorce Oct. 21, said she decided to end the marriage because she thought it was in the best interest of the pair’s 2.5-year-old son, Max.

"When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer," she told People. "That's the last thing I wanted for my son."

A day after her divorce, Aguilera told Redbook magazine she was struggling to get out of bed.

These days she’s been romantically linked to Matthew Rutler, who was a set assistant on “Burlesque.”

"He's the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight," Aguilera told People of her new squeeze.
