J.Lo On Motherhood, Scientology & Her Emotional Breakdown

Jennifer Lopez has finally opened up in a new interview about her recent emotional breakdown, her thoughts on Scientology, selling celebrity baby photos and breast feeding – an interview which has had its veracity called into question by Lopez’s reps.

In an interview posted on the new Web Site, The Daily Beast (former Vanity Fair and New Yorker editor Tina Brown’s new online media venture), Lopez discusses a host of controversial topics with writer Kevin Sessums.

Lopez reportedly told Sessums she experienced depression following the birth of her and husband Marc Anthony’s twins, Emme and Max.

“At the tenth day after giving birth all that chemical stuff did peak — that hormone thing — and I did cry a lot that day because I was having so much trouble moving. I couldn’t get up fast enough to feed the babies…” Lopez tells Sessums.

“Marc was helping out a lot and I was crying and crying and going, ‘Oh, Papi… they’re going to know everybody more than me…They’re going to love everybody more than me!’”

J.Lo’s baby blues were not her first bout with emotional turmoil, according to Sessums. The actress revealed she had a breakdown during the filming of her 2002 movie “Enough.”

“There was a time when I was very overworked and I was doing music and movies and so many things. I was suffering from a lack of sleep. And I did have a kind of nervous breakdown. I froze up on a set. Well, not on a set, but in my trailer. I was like, ‘I don’t want to move. I don’t want to talk. I don’t want to do anything.’ It was on that movie Enough [in 2002],” Lopez said. “Yeah. I did. I had a nervous breakdown.”

But a rep for Lopez tells Access Hollywood that the singer/actress never interviewed with the site.

“Jennifer Lopez did not do an interview for the Daily Beast,” her rep tells Access Hollywood.

Lopez did, however, do an interview with Kevin Sessums for this month’s ELLE cover story, but after the first of what was supposed to be a two-part interview took place, Lopez and her team “weren’t comfortable with the questioning,” according to the star’s rep, who acknowledged that they asked that another writer interview Lopez instead.

The Daily Beast discloses that Sessums’ removal from the ELLE cover story did indeed take place, writing on their site, “The interview was originally done for a major fashion magazine, which removed Sessums from the story after Lopez regretted some of her comments and asked that the story not be published.”

“The story accurately reports what Kevin Sessums learned from Ms. Lopez in his interview,” a rep for the Web site tells Access. “He owns the story and The Daily Beast was happy to publish it.”

A source close to the situation tells Access that after Sessums was removed from the story, he allegedly threatened everyone, including ELLE Magazine. Access’ source also claims Sessums was not authorized to give the Lopez interview to The Daily Beast and is not sure if the quotes on the Tina Brown news Web site are accurate.

Access reached out to Sessums, who deferred to The Daily Beast for comment.

Lopez’s rep confirmed to Access that a legal letter has been sent to Sessums regarding the interview.

ELLE magazine was also contacted for comment, but has not yet been reached.

In the interview, which was published on Tuesday morning, Lopez also spoke about her father, who has been a Scientologist for over 20 years, and her views on the celebrity-filled religion.

The mother of two said she does not consider herself a Scientologist, but would consider schooling her twins in a Scientology school.

“Yeah. I wouldn’t mind. Not at all. Because I know that the technologies that they have are very helpful… It’s all about communication. That’s the thing I really don’t like about talking about this. I do know so many great people who do do it, who choose it as a lifestyle and really follow it and it is their religion,” Lopez said of the religion that Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Leah Remini believe in. “I just wish that people wouldn’t judge it without knowing what it is.”

Regardless of what type of school the twins attend, their adult life appears to be financially secure, according to the interview, where Lopez reveals her motivations behind choosing to sell photographs of Emme and Max for an estimated $6 million dollars.

“I think one of the reasons that the price went so high is that we didn’t want to do it for so long… We weren’t into it. I was like, ‘No, I don’t really want to. No. No way.’ But then it got to the point that you go, ‘Well, now you’re being stupid with these offers’,” Lopez told Sessums. “I thought I can set them up. I can put this away just for them.”

And as for being labeled a diva, Lopez reportedly told Sessums — before she had him removed from the article — that the label did not apply to her.
