Carrie Underwood: ‘I Lose All Respect For Celebrities When They Back A Candidate'

Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah Winfrey, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Diddy and Heidi Montag have all thrown their star power behind presidential candidates — but in doing so, they might have lost the respect of country star Carrie Underwood.

The former “American Idol” winner told TV Guide Magazine that she’s keeping mum on who she’s backing in the race for the White House and that she’s not fond of celebrities who publicly support a candidate.

“There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly,” Carrie said. “I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”

Instead, Carrie would prefer to let people make up their own minds.

“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she told the mag. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”
