“Zombieland 2” Script Is Done, But It Seems No One Wants to Make It

Ruben Fleischer made a name for himself with is undead satire "Zombieland," starring Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson, and ever since then folks have been clamoring for a sequel. Well, don't hold your breath.

You don't have to squint real hard to read between the lines of Fleischer's latest comments on the topic to understand that he and the cast may not have their hearts in it, despite the fact that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the guys who wrote the original, have banged out a follow-up.

“[Rhett and Paul] wrote something and it was really great,” Fleischer told The Playlist. “A script exists. We all are excited of the prospect of making the movie, but I guess we all haven’t found the perfect story to tell yet.”

So there's a script, and it's "really great," but they haven't yet found the "perfect" story. Do you think when he first read their script, Fleischer handed it back to Reese and Wernick and said, "It's not you, it's me"?

And Eisenberg sounded no more excited about it, even before the script was done, saying, “They’re writing the script right now but I haven’t seen it and I suspect that the longer we wait, the less relevant it will be. I mean, all the actors would love to do it and the director would love to do it but I’m not sure what’s happening,” he said.

Regardless of whether or not "Z2" happens, the original was a blast, launched the careers of Fleischer, Reese and Wernick, and gave serious bumps to Eisenberg and Stone. Fleischer and Eisenberg reunite Aug. 12 for "30 Minutes of Less, and Stone can be seen July 29 in "Crazy, Stupid, Love."
