Wachowskis Shop Gay Iraq War Love Story, Possibly With Huffington

Andy and Lana Wachowski are looking to get back to their roots, trying to get financing for a script about love story between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi man.

This as yet unnamed project is to be a "cinema veritie style" film that begins in the near future and looks back at the Iraq War, accoridng to Deadline.

It's possible that this is related to some test footage that Arianna Huffington and Jesse "The Body" Ventura shot last December with the Wachowskis, for what Huffington called a "movie on Iraq from the perspective of the future," in a tweet, as reported by /Film.

Photos of Huffington from the shoot show her with some bizarro hair-do that is only outdone by the pink braids Lana is sporting. In March, Ventura told Howard Stern about his own experience.

"Do you remember what John Travolta looked like in that horrible film Battlefield Earth? They put multicolored dreadlocks on me all the way to here," Ventura told Stern. "They gave me this crazy beard that was hanging down pointed, looked like Travolta, right? And they put a third eye in the middle of my forehead. Because what this is, is this is a hundred years in the future, and they wanted me to talk about the current war in Iraq and how I felt about it. And so I got to vent, looking like this maniac in this whole outfit."

The duo gained fame in 1996 as the Wachowski Brothers (Larry would later undergo a transformation to Lana), the writer-director team that made "Bound," a neo-noir heist film that centered around a romance between Meg Tilly and Gina Gershon.

They followed that up three years later with the "Matrix" (and its progressively disappointing sequels), one of the most visually influentially movies of its age. Their 2008 big-screen adaptation of "Speed Racer" flopped at the box and was roundly panned by critics, but it looked amazing.

We'd be interested in seeing whatever the Wachowskis cook up, but this new project sounds like a tough sell.
