“Mad Men” Cast and Crew Does “Bye Bye Birdie”

While "Mad Men" fans eagerly await the July start of Season 4,  the show's cast and crew delivered a surprise on Tuesday: a behind-the-scenes peek at a gag performance of a "Bye Bye Birdie."

Abdul Stone Jackson, who edits special features for the show's DVD releases, posted a five-minute gag reel of the cast and crew dancing and singing along to the classic song from the '60s musical.

"We put it together for the end of the season party for (series creator) Matt Weiner," Jackson told Popcorn Biz.

The clip was shot over a three-day period during the filming of Season 3 on the show's LA set.  Between takes, Jackson played scenes from the 1963 film for the cast and crew before they hopped in front of the camera to film their spots.

When we called Jackson in Los Angeles, he was surprised to hear that the clip was quickly becoming a viral hit -- he had only put it up on YouTube to show a few friends in New York.

"All of my friends are avid, avid, avid Mad Men fans, including myself, and they were just dying to see it," he said.

Oh, and if you're having a hard time figuring out who is who, that woman wearing a helmet and banging her head against the wall around 0:40 is one of the writers.
