Pitt Falls for Another Michael Lewis Book

Remember the ridiculous on-again, off-again Brad Pitt movie that was to be based on Michael Lewis' book "Moneyball"? Well Pitt is getting into another Lewis project, optioning the author's forthcoming book about the global economic crisis.

"The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine," due to be published March 15, is about "the freefall of the American economy" and full of "villains, a few heroes, and a lot of people who look very, very foolish," according to publisher W.W. Norton's website.

After watching "Moneyball" go through fits and starts before dying just days ahead of shooting was to begin, Lewis probably isn't holding his breath -- despite suggestions that the film is still on life support.

Taking on a Lewis project could pay dividends for Pitt, given that Lewis also wrote "The Blind Side," which earned Sandra Bullock an Oscar nomination. Let's just hope that if Pitt does go through with this project, he doesn't shift the focus of the film away from the book's narrative, and make "Doomsday Machine" about a sassy, middle-aged white woman.
