Jake Scott Prepping Jeff Buckley Biopic

The life of Jeff Buckley was, like his father's before him, marked by prodigious musical talent and an untimely death, is being brought to the big screen.

Jake Scott, son of Ridley and nephew of Tony, will be directing a script by Ryan Jaffe ("The Rocker") about the life of Buckley, reported Deadline.

Buckley's father, Tim, was a folk rock legend in the making when he died of a heroin overdose in 1975, at the age of 28. Some 22 years later, Jeff would drown in the Wolf River in Memphis, Tenn., at the age of 30.

The younger Buckley only released one studio album in his lifetime, "Grace," a gorgeous collection of spare guitar lines simmering beneath his transcendent falsetto. The album, and Buckley, are best remembered for his cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Have fun casting that role.

Scott's directorial debut, "Welcome to the Rileys," starred Kristen Stewart as an underage stripper/prostitute in New Orleans who is befriended by James Gandolfini, who is mourning the death of both his daughter and mistress, with Melissa Leo co-starring as his agoraphobic wife. The film made the festival circuit last year, before opening in limited release in October to luke warm reviews and even colder box office.
