The Phillies lost season appeared to become even more off track Saturday when they placed top batter Carlos Ruiz on the disabled list with a foot injury.
The Phillies on Saturday placed Carlos Ruiz on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
An MRI revealed that Ruiz has a partial tear and he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. The All-Star catcher will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Earlier MLB.com reported that Ruiz -- who is fifth in the National League with a .335 batting average -- could miss the remainder of the season.
With Chooch on the mend, Erik Kratz and Brian Schneider -- himself only recently back from the DL -- are expected to handle duties behind the plate. The Phils recalled infielder Hector Luna to take Chooch’s roster spot.
