Phillies Walk-Off With a Win

Phightins, Gosewisch show late fight to beat the Bucs 3-2

Backup backstop Tuffy Gosewisch singled in two runs with two out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Phillies a 3-2 win over the Pirates in Clearwater.

Tuffy’s hit off Pirates reliever Chris Leroux got Roy Oswalt off the hook. The Phillies third ace had given up two unearned runs on five hits while striking out five and walking none of six innings.

Despite his best start of the spring Oswalt was on the hook after the Phightins offense stalled against Pittsburgh reliever Chris Resop, Jose Veras and Michael Crotta.

The Phillies bullpen trio of Jose Contreras, J.C. Romero and Ryan Madson were just as good giving up a combined three baserunners over three innings. Madson pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win.

Slugger Ryan Howard had two hits including a double and third baseman Pete Orr went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Phightins offensive attack.

The Phils face the Orioles in Sarasota Saturday.
