Damaris Johnson Tops Eagles' Inactives

Rookie wideout/punt returner inactive for 1st time as Cooper returns form injury

Rookie Eagles wide receiver Damaris Johnson was inactive for the first time Sunday as the eagles hosted the Lions.

Johnson, who has caught eight balls for 124 yards this season, also returned punts for the Birds. His spot on the receiving corps was filled by Riley Cooper (returning from a collarbone injury) who offers quarterback Michael Vick a bigger red zone target and Johnson’s absence possibly opens up the door for DeSean Jackson to live up to his The League declaration and actually return punts.

The other major Eagles’ inactive was linebacker Jamar Chaney who went from starter to inactive with Akeem Jordan healthy again.

Rookie DE Vinny Curry, third-string QB Trent Edwards, RB Dion Lewis, T Nate Menkin and T Steve Vallos made up the rest of the Eagles' inactives.

It’s worth noting that Lewis, who seemingly entered the season as the No. 2 running back behind LeSean McCoy  has only played in one game so far this season begging the question is the emergence of rookies Chris Polk and Bryce Brown could make Lewis’ roster spot expendable.

RB Kevin Smith and DL Corey Williams (knee injury) headlined the Lions inactive players. T Jason Fox, T Corey Hilliard, QB Kellen Moore, S Ricardo Silva and LB Tahir Whitehead rounded out Detroit's players not in uniform.
