1st Look Loves: Profiles in History and “The Sound of Music”

Founded in 1985 by Joseph Maddalena, Profiles in History is the world's largest auctioneer and dealer of original Hollywood memorabilia, historical autographs, letters, documents, vintage signed photographs and manuscripts. Coming up this weekend on July 28th and 29th, the most comprehensive collection of signature costumes from "The Sound of Music," will hit the auction block featuring all the iconic outfits worn by Julie Andrews and the “Von Trapp” children. "The Sound of Music" is the most successful movie musical in history spawning some of the most beloved songs known to generations of Americans, including “Edelweiss", “Do-Re-Mi”, “Sixteen Going on 17”, and “My Favorite Things."

Without question, this is an unprecedented collection of signature costumes any institution or collector could ever hope too obtain. Included with the following costumes is a four-page typewritten story of the Von Trapp family signed by Maria Von Trapp, explaining the origins of the singing family and events leading to their eventual escape from Third Reich-controlled Austria. (From the collection of Chris Christian). The collection is estimated to sell for between $800,000 - $1,200,000.

Profiles in History has held some of the most prestigious and successful auctions of Hollywood memorabilia and owns virtually every Guinness Book record for prices of original screen-used memorabilia. Highlights from their previous auctions include the "Cowardly Lion" costume from "The Wizard of Oz" ($805,000), Steve McQueen's "Michael Delaney" racing suit from "Le Mans"  ($960,000), the Marilyn Monroe "Subway" Dress from "The Seven Year Itch" ($5.52M) and the Audrey Hepburn Ascot Dress from "My Fair Lady" ($4.44M). In February 2012, Profiles in History arranged the sale of a pair of Judy Garland screen-used Ruby Slippers from "The Wizard of Oz" to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. In addition, Joe Maddalena is the star of "Hollywood Treasure," which just ended its second season on Syfy. Hollywood Treasure takes viewers into the fascinating world of showbiz and pop culture memorabilia.
