The crash occurred at a building on 6600 Easton Road shortly before noon. Footage from SkyForce10 showed the burnt and damaged remains of two cars, a damaged building and firefighters dousing smoke from the vehicle.

Officials have not yet revealed the cause of the crash or if anyone was seriously injured.

The crash closed Easton Road between Quarry Road and Saw Mill/Old Easton Road, police said.

According to police, back on Sept. 22, 2024, around 1:30 a.m., a car meetup took place at 25th St. and Washington Ave.

This car meetup resulted in hundreds of people and vehicles flooding the area, police said. The crowd even vandalized private property in the neighborhood.

Surveillance video provided by police shows a group of people who were involved in the illegal car meetup, punching and throwing traffic cones at a person who tried to confront them.

Police said during the assault, some of the suspects were seen armed with firearms. One of the suspects even discharged his firearm into the air.

Police said if you see these suspects, do not approach them and contact 911 immediately. However, if you have any information about these crimes or the suspects, you are urged to contact South Detective Division at 215-686-3013/3014.

This car meet up was one of several that took place between the night of Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, and the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024.

Commissioner Bethel and Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore announced they’ve made a total of nine arrests so far in connection to the car meetups.

Also during a recent press conference, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Cram provided an update on the department’s initiative to crack down on illegal dirt bikes and ATVs on city streets.

According to Cram, 949 illegal vehicles have been confiscated in Philadelphia this year, compared to 186 in 2023 and 218 in 2022.

Cram also said they’ve made more than 158 arrests and recovered 32 guns — 15 of which were illegal — as part of the crackdown this year.

Eustace Mita, owner and developer of the Wonderland property, shared that he is proposing to build a 252-room hotel at the site.

This comes after Mita proposed a $150 million beachfront hotel for a property adjacent to the pier last year. At the time, the proposal sparked opposition and went nowhere.

Mita said the new hotel would be called “ICONA in Wonderland” and incorporate the former amusement park’s iconic Ferris wheel and historic carousel, saving them both.

Mita’s company, ICONA Resorts, already has upscale hotels in Avalon, Cape May and Diamond Beach.

“We wanted to preserve and enhance Wonderland while bringing an incredible amenity,” Mita told NBC10. “Because how can we be America’s greatest family resort when we haven’t had a new hotel in 50 years?”

Mita added that the $135 million project would help replace some of the 2,000 hotel rooms Ocean City has lost over the years.

Mita’s team hopes to present the ambitious plan to the city council by March and request that the area be deemed a redevelopment zone, allowing construction on the boardwalk front.

From the time they would break ground, Mita said the hotel would take about two years to build.

Jose Ibarra, who entered the U.S. illegally two years ago, is charged with murder and other crimes in Riley’s February killing, which helped fan the immigration debate during this year’s presidential campaign. Ibarra waived his right to a jury trial, meaning his case is being will be heard and decided by Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard.

Prosecutor Sheila Ross told the judge that Ibarra encountered Riley, a 22-year-old student at Augusta University College of Nursing, while she was out running on Feb. 22.

“When Laken Riley refused to be his rape victim, he bashed her skull in with a rock repeatedly,” Ross said, adding that the evidence will show that Riley “fought for her life, for her dignity.”

As a result of that fight, Ibarra’s DNA was left under her fingernails, Ross said. Riley called 911 and, in a struggle over her phone, Ibarra’s thumbprint was left on the screen, she said.

The forensic evidence is sufficient to prove Ibarra’s guilt, but digital and video evidence will also show that Ibarra killed Riley, the prosecutor said.

Defense attorney Dustin Kirby called the evidence in the case graphic and disturbing, but he said none of it proves that his client killed Riley.

“The evidence in this case is very good that Laken Riley was murdered,” he said. “The evidence that Jose Ibarra killed Laken Riley is circumstantial. The evidence that anyone had any intent or certainly committed any sexual assault is speculation.”

The killing added fuel to the national debate over immigration when federal authorities said Ibarra illegally entered the U.S. in 2022 and was allowed to stay to pursue his immigration case.

Republicans, including President-elect Donald Trump, blamed Democratic President Joe Biden’s border policies for her death. As he spoke about border security during his State of the Union address weeks after the killing, Biden mentioned Riley by name.

Riley’s body was found near running trails after her roommates told police she had not returned from a morning run. Police said her killing appeared to be a random attack. Ibarra was arrested the next day and has been held in the Athens-Clarke County Jail without bond.

Ibarra is charged with one count of malice murder, three counts of felony murder and one count each of kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, hindering an emergency telephone call, tampering with evidence and being a peeping Tom.

Prosecutors say that on the day of Riley’s killing, Ibarra peered into the window of an apartment in a university housing building, which is the basis for the peeping Tom charge.

Before the trial, defense attorneys unsuccessfully tried to have the proceedings moved out of Athens, a city of about 130,000 people about 70 miles east of Atlanta. They also wanted to have the peeping Tom charge handled separately and to exclude some evidence and expert testimony.

The defense throttled a high-powered Washington offense and the Eagles’ offense eventually got things rolling on the ground late in the game.

Here are our position-by-position grades:

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts: 18/28, 221 yards; 10 carries, 39 yards, 1 TD

It wasn’t the best game for Hurts, who missed some throws early in the game and generally looked pretty uncomfortable in the first half. He didn’t pull the trigger on a crosser to DeVonta Smith and missed A.J. Brown when he was open. But give Hurts credit because he ended up finishing strong and did make some big plays with his arm and with his legs, including a huge first-down pickup on 3rd-and-7 late in the second quarter. And Hurts didn’t turn the ball over in this one.

Grade: C+

Running back

Saquon Barkley: 26 carries, 146 yards, 2 TDs; 2 catches, 52 yards

Through the first three quarters, Barkley had 20 carries for just 70 yards but he finally busted through in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 146 yards on the ground and 198 scrimmage yards. Barkley reached 20+ mph on both of his touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, giving him a league-high six such runs this season. And give credit to Kenny Gainwell, who actually got the run game going with three straight carries for a total of 34 yards early in the fourth quarter to set up the touchdown that gave the Eagles a lead.

Grade: A+

Receiver

A.J. Brown: 5 catches on 8 targets, 65 yards

It seemed like Brown would have had the opportunity to have a monster game but it didn’t really happen like that. And DeVonta Smith had just 4 catches for 29 yards; Jahan Dotson had just 1 for 8 and that came on the first play of the game. The passing game was a little out of whack on Thursday night.

Grade: B

Tight end

Dallas Goedert: 5 catches on 5 targets, 61 yards

The biggest play of the game for Goedert almost ended in disaster. At the tail end of his 32-yarder in the fourth quarter, he fumbled but TE2 Grant Calcaterra made a huge play to jump on top of the loose football to secure possession. If the Eagles cough up the ball there, who knows what happens. Instead, they punched in another touchdown to push their lead to two scores.

Grade: B

Offensive line

While the run game took a while to get going, the offensive line ended up opening some huge holes in the fourth quarter to bust the game open. It was fun watching Cam Jurgens bully No. 35 twice on the long Barkley touchdown run. Jordan Mailata returned at left tackle and played well, along with right tackle Lane Johnson. Hurts was sacked a couple of times in this game but one of them came on a trick play. For the most part, the line did a good job giving him a clean pocket. Landon Dickerson was able to play through an injury suffered early in the game. Mekhi Becton didn’t have his cleanest game; he was the weakest spot of a pretty strong performance.

Grade: A

Defensive line

Jalen Carter: 7 tackles, 1 TFL

The Eagles’ run defense was a little leaky in the first half but they really got after Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels on Thursday night. Daniels was sacked just three times — one from Brandon Graham, one from Nolan Smith, one from Josh Sweat — but the pressure on him seemed pretty constant. Jalen Carter had one of his strongest performances of the year and he’s starting to stack them up week over week. Carter was huge on the series of plays that led to the turnover on downs.

Grade: A-

Linebacker

Zack Baun: 14 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PBU

We should’t be surprised by Zack Baun anymore. He’s one of the best linebackers in the NFL and he proves it every single week. On Thursday, he dropped into coverage to get a PBU on the first drive and was a huge part of the play of the game, tackling Daniels short of the sticks on a crucial 4th-and-2 in the fourth quarter. Baun actually missed a tackle in the first half and it was a strange sight. Nakobe Dean’s game wasn’t as spectacular but it was solid. He had 10 tackles, including a tremendous one against Daniels 1-on-1 in space.

Grade: A

Secondary

Reed Blankenship: 10 tackles, 1 INT, 1 PBU

The Eagles’ secondary had its best performance of the season on Thursday. They put the clamps on a good offense, an impressive rookie quarterback and a Pro Bowl receiver. Daniels threw for just 191 yards and was picked off late by Reed Blankenship, who continues to make difficult interceptions. It was just Daniels’ third INT of the season. And Quinyon Mitchell completely shut down Terry McLaurin. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Mitchell lined up opposite McLaurin for 20 of McLaurin’s 25 routes and held him without a single target. And it wasn’t like Daniels wasn’t looking that way; he wanted to but Mitchell was a blanket.

Grade: A+

Special teams

Jake Elliott: 2/4 on FG, 1/2 on PATs

It was a rough game for the Eagles’ longtime kicker. This was just the second game of Jake Elliott’s NFL career with two missed field goals and he also missed an extra point. All three misses went wide left. Braden Mann had an ugly 38-yard punt and Sydney Brown was called for a block in the back on a return. Jalyx Hunt did force a fumble on a kickoff but it was recovered by Washington. And Will Shipley had a 33-yard kick return.

Grade: C-

Coaching

Record: 8-2

After all the talk about Nick Sirianni earlier this season, he deserves credit now that the Eagles are on a six-game winning streak. This team is rolling and he has them wanting to do, as he called it, “special s—.” Kellen Moore had some trouble getting the passing game going but give him credit for sticking with the run. And Vic Fangio deserves a key to the city or something. His defense has legitimately been one of the best in football since the bye.

Grade: A

Customs and Border Protection officers seized 343 pounds of pot at “an international shipping service facility in Delaware County” in two different incidents on Nov. 6, and Nov. 8, 2024, Customs and Border Protection said in a Nov. 14, 2024, news release.

The pot was packed in 77 combined parcels, CBP said.

“The parcels were all being shipped from multiple addresses in California to multiple addresses in the U.K.,” CBP said.

The pot had a U.S. street value of about $1.5 million, CBP said, while noting the pot could have fetched at least twice as much in London, England.

CBP noted that recently two other shipments of contraband weed from California to the U.K. were also intercepted.

“Federal law prohibits transporting marijuana across state lines or exporting it from the United States,” CBP noted. “However, CBP is observing a continuing trend of United States-based growers, retailers, and criminal organizations shipping or transporting marijuana to Europe and Africa where high-quality weed can fetch prices many times higher than in the U.S.”

The Philadelphia CBP pledged to continue its fight against illegal shipments.

“Customs and Border Protection officers continue to seize an unprecedented number of illicit export parcels of marijuana, which illustrates both the value and the threats presented by the global marketplace,” Cleatus Hunt, CBP’s Area Port Director for the Area Port of Philadelphia. said. “Consumers around the world can essentially get whatever they want and from wherever they want at the price that they want to spend, even if the product violates the export or import nation’s laws or whether the product poses a health and safety threat to consumers.”

That’s how Manor College President Dr. Jonathan Peri spoke of NBC10 Responds reporter and news anchor Tracy Davidson as she was honored at the 23rd Annual Evening with Manor event at Jenkintown’s Manor College on Nov. 15, 2024.

Manor honored Tracy for leading “an incredible life off camera with a mission to serve others.”

“Her focus is empowering women and girls, both professionally and personally,” the Montgomery County college said.

Tracy addresd the crowd.

“We’re not helpless to bring hope and help to the people right in front of us every day, to the community in front of us, every day, to the culture that we live in every day,” Tracy told the crowd.

Thursday’s event “raises money for Manor College’s mission – personalized education that generates a commitment to a peaceful world,” the college said.

The fundraiser drew a record 150 attendees and raised more than $100,000, the college said. NBC10’s Sheila Watko served as emcee and several of Sheila’s and Tracy’s colleagues attended.

Tracy offered advice on being a light to others.

““It takes intention and attention in our scrambled, hectic world,” Tracy said. “And trust me when I tell you I am scrambled most of the time. If we can give our attention and remember that we have the opportunity to change the culture and to change the community right in front of us by letting people know, I see you and I’m here to help you tonight.”

Congrats Tracy on a well-earned honor.

Tyson went viral Thursday for slapping Paul during their weigh-in ahead of their fight on Friday. Paul, wearing shoes, appeared to step on Tyson’s bare feet right before the incident.

Paul got to speak about the slap on stage, to which he said Tyson “must die” in a NSFW moment.

“I’m f—— him up,” Paul yelled into the microphone. “He hits like a b—-. It’s personal now. He must die.”

The crash happened at Buxmont Street and County Line Road and caused the pickup truck to get pinned underneath the school bus.

Lower Moreland Township police officers responded to the crash around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, officials said.

Emergency crews could be seen by SkyForce10 removing the truck from under the school bus.

County Line Road was closed in both directions from Pine Road to Bustleton Avenue for hours, Lower Moreland Police Department said.

Lower Moreland Township School District Superintendent Dr. Dennis Best sent out a statement to their community confirming the school bus was one of theirs:

“As some may be aware, one of our activity buses was involved in an accident this evening while completing the late bus run,” Best wrote. “Fortunately, the bus was largely empty at the time of the accident, with only a few of our students on the bus. As with all bus accidents, police and other emergency responders were called to the scene, and students were medically evaluated. The LMTSD students involved in the accident were subsequently released to their parents/guardians.”

Lower Moreland Police said that one student on the bus sustained minor injuries.

“The driver of the truck had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries,” police said in a news release.

AFSCME District Council 33 – which represents thousands of city employees from multiple departments, including water, housing, police radio and sanitation — first announced their intention to go on strike during a protest outside City Hall on Oct. 30, 2024. The union has been without a contract since July and has been involved in ongoing negotiations with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s office.

In July, DC33 president Greg Boulware met with Mayor Parker who offered a one-year contract extension, the union said. In August, the union submitted their own proposal, a four-year deal that included substantial raises, pension changes and employee protections.

On Oct. 17, the union met with City Council again. They claimed the city presented a “disrespectful” proposal that was the same generic one that was offered to other municipal unions.

“They came back with nothing. They came back with disrespect. They came back with no dignity. They came back with no understanding of what our people go through every day,” Boulware said at the time.

Joe Grace, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office, responded to the union’s statement and protest back on Oct. 30.

“It’s not our place to discuss the union’s tactics or strategies,” Grace wrote. “We remain confident in what we’ve negotiated throughout this year with every other union representing our municipal workers, and we believe we will be able to find an amicable resolution with District Council 33’s leadership and membership as well.”

District Council 33 began their official strike authorization vote on Nov. 7, 2024. On Thursday, Nov. 14, Boulware released the official results, with 2,849 votes (87%) in favor of authorizing a strike and 449 (13%) not in favor.

“These results do not mean we are on strike,” Boulware wrote. “This vote authorizes DC33 leadership to call a strike against the city of Philadelphia at any time should one become necessary due to the City not presenting our members with a fair and amicable contract proposal.”

NBC10 reached out to the city for a response to the strike authorization vote.

“No comment for today, other than, the Parker administration remains hopeful that we can find common ground and reach an agreement with the hard-working men and women of District Council 33,” a city spokesperson wrote.

Samuel Woodward, who is now 27, is scheduled to be sentenced in a Southern California courtroom for the murder of Blaze Bernstein nearly seven years ago. There is no question about the sentence Woodward will receive because the jury’s verdict carries a life sentence without parole, said Kimberly Edds, a spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

Defense attorney Ken Morrison previously said he would appeal the verdict.

Woodward was convicted this year of first-degree murder with an enhancement for a hate crime for killing Bernstein, a gay, Jewish college sophomore.

Bernstein, who was 19, disappeared in January 2018 after he went out at night with Woodward to a park in Lake Forest, about 45 miles southeast of Los Angeles. After Bernstein missed a dentist appointment the next day, his parents found his glasses, wallet and credit cards in his bedroom and tried to reach him, but he didn’t respond.

Authorities launched an exhaustive search and said Bernstein’s family scoured his social media and saw he had communicated with Woodward on Snapchat. Authorities said Woodward told the family that Bernstein had gone to meet a friend in the park that night and didn’t come back.

Days later Bernstein’s body was found in a shallow grave in the park. He had been repeatedly stabbed in the face and neck.

The question during Woodward’s monthslong trial was not whether he killed Bernstein but why and the circumstances under which it happened. Prosecutors said Woodward was affiliated with the violent anti-gay, neo-Nazi extremist group Atomwaffen Division, while Morrison said his client didn’t plan to kill anyone or hate Bernstein and faced challenging personal relationships due to a long-undiagnosed autism spectrum disorder.

The case took years to go to trial amid a series of delays and stoked public outcry in Southern California, where residents fanned out in 2018 to try to help authorities find Bernstein after he suddenly went missing.

Woodward testified during his trial and gave slow, delayed replies to lawyers’ questions with his long hair partly covering his face.

Bernstein and Woodward attended the same high school, Orange County School of the Arts, and connected via a dating app in the months before the killing. Woodward said he picked up Bernstein, went to a nearby park and repeatedly stabbed Bernstein after trying to grab a cellphone he feared had been used to photograph him.

Morrison, the defense lawyer, said Woodward was confused about his sexuality after growing up in a politically conservative and devout Catholic family where his father openly criticized homosexuality.

But prosecutors told a different story. They said Woodward had repeatedly targeted gay men online by reaching out to them and abruptly breaking off contact, while keeping a hateful, profanity-laced journal of his actions.

Authorities said they also found a black Atomwaffen mask with traces of blood, a folding knife with a bloodied blade and a host of anti-gay, antisemitic and hate group materials in a search of his family’s home in Newport Beach, California.

Republicans went to court in Pennsylvania on Thursday amid vote counting in the U.S. Senate election between Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick, as the campaigns prepare for a recount and press counties for favorable ballot-counting decisions.

The lawsuits ask courts not to allow counties to count mail-in ballots where the voter didn’t write a date on the return envelope — as required by law — or wrote an incorrect date. The GOP suits could be among many before the last vote in the Senate race is counted, especially with the contest headed toward a state-mandated recount.

The Associated Press called the race for McCormick last week, concluding that not enough ballots remained to be counted in areas Casey was winning for him to take the lead. However, NBC News has not yet declared a winner calling the race “too close to call.”

As of Friday morning, McCormick led by about 24,000 votes out of more than 6.9 million ballots counted — inside the 0.5% margin threshold to trigger an automatic statewide recount under Pennsylvania law.

The national and state Republican parties asked the state Supreme Court to bar counties from counting the ballots, saying those decisions violate both the court’s recent orders and its precedent in upholding the requirement in state law.

In a statement, the Pennsylvania Republican Party chair, Lawrence Tabas, said, “What’s taking place in these counties is absolute lawlessness.”

Democratic-majority election boards in Montgomery County, Philadelphia, Bucks County and Centre County voted to count the ballots.

Democrats cast more mail-in ballots than Republicans, and Democrats in the past have supported counting ballots that trip over what they view as meaningless clerical requirements in state law.

“We’re talking about constitutional rights and I cannot take an action to throw out someone’s ballot that is validly cast, otherwise, over an issue that we know … is immaterial,” Montgomery County Commissioner Neil Makhija, a Democrat, said during a Thursday meeting in voting to count 501 such ballots.

McCormick’s campaign sued Bucks County separately to contest the county election board’s decision to count 405 such ballots. Lawsuits were forthcoming against Center County and Philadelphia on Thursday evening, Republican lawyers said.

It is the opposite of the position that McCormick took in court in 2022 in his failed eleventh-hour bid to close the gap in votes with celebrity heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary contest for U.S. Senate.

In that case, McCormick’s lawyer told a state judge that the object of Pennsylvania’s election law is to let people vote, “not to play games of ‘gotcha’ with them.”

Statewide, the number of mail-in ballots with wrong or missing dates on the return envelope could be in the thousands, although most counties haven’t moved to count them.

Lower courts have repeatedly deemed it unconstitutional or illegal to throw out such ballots. But higher courts — including the state Supreme Court most recently on Nov. 1 — have blocked those decisions from taking effect.

Counties, meanwhile, continued Thursday processing tens of thousands of provisional ballots and hearing challenges to some of them by lawyers for Casey, McCormick and the state parties. A provisional ballot is typically cast at a polling place on Election Day and is separated from regular ballots in cases when elections workers need more time to determine a voter’s eligibility to vote.

On Wednesday, Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro’s top election official, Secretary of State Al Schmidt, a Republican, announced that preliminary results had triggered a legally required statewide recount and said counties had reported just over 80,000 uncounted provisional, mail-in and absentee ballots.

Counties must finish the recount by noon on Nov. 26. It largely involves running paper ballots through high-speed scanners, a process that former election officials say might not change the outcome by more than a few hundred votes.

Meanwhile, both Casey and McCormick were in Washington this week. Casey was attending official Senate sessions and casting floor votes while McCormick attended Senate orientation and caucus meetings to pick a new leader after Republicans won control of the U.S. Senate in last week’s election that saw Donald Trump win the White House.

Zayaan Carroll, 17, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 13, by US Marshals, officials announced Thursday. Police said Carroll was involved in the shooting death of 17-year-old Isya Stanley over the summer.

Investigators said Carroll was at a pop-up party with around 200 other teens and young adults along the 2400 block of Greenland Drive at Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024. Police had responded to the party to disperse the crowd and enforce curfew regulations. Carroll and an unidentified suspect then engaged in a gun battle, pulling out their weapons and firing at each other, investigators said.

Five teenagers, including 17-year-old Isya Stanley, were all struck by the gunfire. Stanley, who had been shot in the chest and shoulder, was later pronounced dead. The four other victims – an 18-year-old girl, 14-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys – all suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All of the victims were innocent bystanders, investigators said.

After combing through evidence and social media postings, investigators identified Carroll as one of the suspects in the shooting.

Stanley’s family told NBC10 she had just graduated from high school and was looking forward to attending college.

“I’m heartbroken. That’s my only daughter,” her father, Isef Stanley, told NBC10. “My daughter was very good and she had a very, very bright future.”

The teen’s death also occurred only two days before Father’s Day.

“I gotta celebrate Father’s Day without my daughter. It’s a really hurtful situation,” Isef Stanley said.

Investigators said the shooting on June 14 was connected to another mass shooting that occurred on the Fourth of July a few weeks later. A gunman fired out of the passenger side of a passing white Toyota Highlander, shooting eight people who were attending a pop-up party along the 1900 block of South Salford Street around 11:30 p.m.  

A patrol officer found one of the victims – 19-year-old Maurice Quann — on the ground and then called for backup, investigators said. Police officers then found more people hurt at the scene and several more would arrive at the hospital.

Quann later died from his injuries at the hospital.

The other victims – who were between the ages of 14 and 24 – survived their injuries. Only two of the shooting victims were from the neighborhood, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said at the time, while noting the shooting appeared to have targeted young people at the party which had been promoted on social media.

Investigators said police had broken up large gatherings in the area earlier that night as they were tracking pop-up events across the city.

During Thursday’s press conference, Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said the deadly June shooting was connected to the July shooting.

“The social media matched up so we know that there’s a connection,” Vanore said.

While the victims in the June shooting were innocent bystanders, Vanore said the victims of the July shooting were targeted. No arrests have been made in the July 4^th shooting. Investigators described the gunman as a man with dreadlocked hair but didn’t provide a detailed description beyond that. Police also recovered the Toyota Highlander in Lansdowne.

26-year-old Mirvan Dinler was arrested in October and on Nov. 14 he arrived to court surrounded by his lawyer and supporters for the trial in the September, 2024, alleged rape case.

He was charged with rape, indecent sexual assault, reckless endangerment and other offenses.

Dinler said nothing as he walked into the court to face a judge and the 21-year-old unnamed victim.

Prosecutors called the victim to testify and she told the court that she had never met her alleged attacker before that night.

The victim also told the court that she was out with her friends and had been drinking when she started to not feel well. She said that she called an Uber to go back to her dorm.

She explained in court that she didn’t remember the drive back to her dorm. She said that she does remember waking up and seeing a man she didn’t recognize on top of her and assaulting her.

The victim said that she was silenced by fear as she waited for the man to leave her room. Once he left, she said she waited alone and was not sure how much time passed before she heard knocking on her door.

She said that Dinler returned to her room and demanded that she pay him because she had gotten sick in his vehicle.

While the victim spoke to the court, Dinler looked directly at her.

The defense team tried to show that the woman had communicated with friends after the alleged assault but did not call police to report what happened.

“There was, uh, glaring cracks in that story. And I think that a trial, once you see a trial, I think everyone will understand why Mr. Dinler will be vindicated,” defense attorney Shaka Johnson said.

Prosecutors did not speak outside of the court room.

The judge ultimately ruled that there is enough evidence to send this case to a high court.

Constance Newton, Martin’s mother, is entering her first holiday season without her son.

“I’m not grieving anymore. But I just feel like he gone now. I’m lonely from him. Just talking to us, you know, and laughing with him,” Newton said.

29-year-old Martin and 33-year-old Joshua Waltz were killed on September 13 after a series of events on the I-95 ramp to 476 North in Ridley Township.

Pennsylvania State Police say it happened just before 10 p.m. when someone, for unknown reasons, shot Martin through his driver’s side window, hitting him in the neck.

According to investigators, Waltz was struck by Martin’s car as he was inspecting the back of his car after hitting some debris on the interstate. 

Martin’s car had made contact with the right concrete barrier and guide rail before it dragged itself along the barrier for approximately 1/4 mile before striking Waltz and the rear bumper of his car, police said.

Martin and Waltz were both pronounced dead at the scene.

With few answers months later, Martin’s loved ones are pleading for anyone who has information to come forward so both families can get the answers they desperately deserve.

“Just speak up and treat it like it was your family member and just say something, because we lost a gentle soul. A gentle giant. Funny, loving person that would do anything for anybody,” Clinta Martin, Martin’s sister, said.

State police said they are still working hard on the case but don’t have anything new to report. In the days following the shooting and crash, troopers called for anyone who was driving on the I-95 ramp to I-476 N between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on September 13 to reach out to them.

“You can never fill the void, but you just have to think of his good memories and how he used to make everybody laugh,” Clinta said.

The theft was caught on surveillance cameras as the thieves pulled it out of the parking lot where it was stored. It was then last seen traveling over the bridge into Delaware.

Police in Carneys Point are investigating after the trailer was stolen on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The owner of the trailer is hoping the community can help find it.

“Why? Why would someone want to come steal my food trailer?” Luke Patrick, owner of the Pattyscakes Concessions EMS Cafe food truck, said. “I built that trailer from the ground up 2011, completely refurbished it last winter. That was pretty much the start to my food business that trailer.”

The trailer was stored in the parking lot at Cornerstone Grill when it was taken and the owner of the restaurant said she was furious when she saw the video.

“It was parked right alongside the yellow poles,” Kim Flowers explained. “It’s really sad. He’s worked very hard to get that food truck and for someone to just snatch it.”  

Police said that the trailer hasn’t been seen since it went over the bridge into Delaware.

Patrick said that he’s worried about the impact this will have on his business and family. He just wants to get his trailer back.

On Nov. 1, 2024, Hurst entered a non-negotiated guilty plea to four counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, escape, conspiracy to escape and numerous firearm offenses.

Then, on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, Hurst was sentenced to 55 to 110 years in prison.

“Ameen Hurst, who posed a grave danger to the public, can no longer harm our community thanks to the excellent work of the U.S. Marshals Service, Philadelphia Police Department, and Assistant District Attorneys Anthony Voci and Brett Zakeosian,” said DA Krasner. “It is hard to overstate the threat to public safety that this reckless and dangerous defendant posed to our city. Hurst involved in 4 Philly murders

On Dec. 24, 2020, Hurst — who was 16 at the time and affiliated with the now defunct street gang Young Bag Chasers (YBC) — killed 20-year-old Dyewou Scruggs as the victim was walking to catch the bus to work in Philadelphia’s Overbrook neighborhood.

Less than a week later, Hurst shot at four young men in Overbrook, killing 24-year-old Naquan Smith and 17-year-old Tamir Brown. Two other victims were wounded in the shooting.

A week after the second attack in Overbrook, Hurst and his YBC associates learned that an alleged member of a rival group was set to be released from the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF). When they arrived, Hurst and his accomplices opened fire and shot and killed 20-year-old Rodney Hargrove. They then drove their car over his body. Hargrove was not their intended target, investigators said.

Hurst was arrested in April 2021 and charged with the four murders as well as a series of robberies in West Philadelphia.

Hurst escapes prison

On May 7, 2023, as he was awaiting trial for the murder charges, Hurst, along with Nasir Grant, escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center in Northeast Philadelphia, officials said.

Hurst and Grant cut a hole in a fence surrounding a recreation yard, according to investigators. Officials said the two men were missing for nearly 19 hours before prison employees noticed. Grant — who was being held on drugs and weapons offenses before the escape — was later recaptured on May 11, 2023, officials said.

Hurst, meanwhile, fled to New York City, rented a recording studio with his brother, and recorded music, before returning to Philadelphia. Then, on May 17, 2023, he was arrested by U.S. Marshals along the 6100 block of Washington Avenue in Philadelphia’s Cobbs Creek neighborhood.

Investigators said Hurst was apprehended after being spotted with his two family members getting into a vehicle.

Police also arrested four people accused of helping Hurst and Grant escape.  

“Even in our darkest hour, I still recognize that God is the foundation of our family,” said Pastor John Hargrove III. “I want to thank the Philadelphia Police Department, the U.S. Marshals, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, and everyone who had a hand in brining the defendant to justice. This is not something that just affects our family. Gun violence affects our whole city, our state, and our country. We should all be praying for each other.”

The crash happened around Noon on Nov. 14 at the Shell gas station that is located at the intersection of Tyson and Frankford avenues in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.

Officials said that they were pleasantly surprised that the driver didn’t get hurt.

Initial evidence showed that as the Cadillac CTS approached Tyson Avenue, it jumped the curb before it crashed into the pump. Within moments, flames nearly melted the entire car.

NBC10 crews went to the scene just after 1 p.m. where a gray-colored sedan was visibly damaged with it’s front end crashed into where a gas pump was. The gas pump was on the ground on its side.

It was evident that the car and the gas pump caught on fire at some point during the incident because both were clearly burnt.

One neighbor told NBC10 that this particular intersection is dangerous because of drivers traveling too fast, doing doughnuts and disregarding others trying to park their cars.

Officials have not yet determined if speed caused today’s incident.

There weren’t any customers pumping gas when this car crashed, but an employee who was inside the convenience store when this happened said she is physically okay.

From Sept. 23 to Oct. 31, five commercial burglaries occurred in the neighborhood, all in a similar style.

According to police, the first incident happened around 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 23. An unknown man grabbed a rock from a shopping cart he was pushing and smashed the window of the Ultimo Coffee Shop located at 5901 Wayne Ave.

Police said the suspect then reached through the broken window, took audio electronics, and walked away west of Wayne Ave. with the shopping cart.

The second incident happened on Oct. 8 at 3:26 a.m. at 42 W. Chelten Ave., according to police. The same unknown man broke the window of a store and took various items from the shelves, such as deodorants, plug-ins, and laundry detergent.

Police said the third incident happened on Oct. 13 at 3:30 a.m. at Kinesics Dance Dynamics located at 5427 Germantown Ave. The unknown male picked up a rock and broke the glass front door, climbed through the window, and shortly excited the studio with a cart full of various clothing, cleaning supplies, and tools. He was last seen walking west of Germantown Ave.

The fourth incident happened on Oct. 24 at 3:44 a.m. at the Covenant House located at 31 E. Armat St. Police said the suspect broke a ground-level office window, climbed in, emerged from the office, and walked through the hallway to ransack the kitchen area.

The fifth and final reported incident happened on Oct. 31. Police said at 2:32 a.m., the unknown man broke out a side window to the Germantown Friends School located at 31. W. Coulter St. Once inside, the suspect took one silver Apple iPad.

During this incident, police said the suspect arrived with a large dark-colored trash can with the number 5340 written on the upper side of the trashcan. The suspect then threw a rock, broke a side window of the property, and entered the location through the window.

Police describe the suspect as an older man with a thin build and graying hair.

According to police, the suspect often commits burglaries between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is always seen pushing a shopping cart with black trash bags through the streets after his burglaries.

Some neighborhood businesses, including Gaffney Fabrics, have metal shutters to protect their windows, and although they’re right across the street from the Germantown Friend’s Manager, Nancy Nagle feels protected.

“I don’t think anyone lashing out and doing this stuff is gonna stop us from moving forward, creating a very positive spot in the community,” said Nagle.

“I can feel their frustration, I empathize when you work very hard and you’re trying to do the right thing in your community and this happens to you, so that’s why we’re going to do our very best and attempt to apprehend this individual,” said Caption John Craig of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Police said if you see the suspect, do not approach him and contact 9-1-1 immediately.

The ordeal began Sunday evening on Nov. 10, along the 5400 block of Chancellor Street. A woman called police to report a domestic disturbance involving 47-year-old Jonathan Corbin, officials said.

Corbin had allegedly pulled out a gun and fired it inside the home.

A man who lived nearby told investigators he heard gunshots while inside his home. Upon exiting his home, he then spotted Corbin inside his friend’s vehicle, police said. Corbin then allegedly pointed a gun at both the man and his friend, demanding their belongings.

“I can tell that he was mentally ill. Something was off with him because I offered him money to start,” the carjacking victim told NBC10. “I could just tell that he wasn’t paying attention to me. And I just took a chance…and started running.”

Corbin then tried to fire his weapon but was unable to, police said.

“When the gun jammed, he ran up closer to me,” the victim said. “I had my hands in the air and was telling him ‘What are you doing, just calm down, calm down.’ He just wouldn’t calm down.”

Responding officers Nicolas Verrecchio, Philip Lattanzio and Sergeant Jacob Rodgers, from the 18th police district, arrived on the scene.

Corbin allegedly pointed his gun at the officers, prompting Verrecchio, 25 with two years on the force, to shoot his weapon at Corbin. It is unknown if Corbin was hit at this time, police said.

Corbin then fled the scene in the vehicle, officials said.  

A pursuit began through West Philadelphia, led by officer Lattanzio, 29 with six years on the force, and Sergeant Rodgers, 34 with 10 years on the force.

The chase ended on 52^nd Street and Woodland Avenue where Corbin exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward an empty lot. The pursuing officers noticed Corbin was armed and during a confrontation Lattanzio and Sergeant Rodgers fired their weapons, according to police.

At some point during Sunday night’s ordeal, Corbin had been shot, investigators said. They have not yet determined if he was shot during the first or second confrontation with police, or both.

Corbin was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m. that night. Police also recovered a weapon, a Taurus 9mm, from the scene.

No officers or individuals were injured during this incident.

Philadelphia Police, Internal Affairs and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office are all investigating the incident.

The two officers and the sergeant who were involved have all been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Trenton Water Works (TWW) and the Borough of Doylestown issued these notices on Thursday, November 14.

TTW asked all customers and service-area residents to “limit all nonessential water usage as New Jersey continues to experience historically low precipitation, above-average temperatures, and deteriorating water supply conditions.”

“On November 13, 2024, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection issued a drought warning to preserve and balance available water supplies to prevent a more serious shortage of water,” said Michael Walker, Chief of Communications and Public Outreach for the city’s Department of Water and Sewer, which operates Trenton Water Works.

Some outdoor water conversation guidelines include:

• Pausing the watering of outdoor plants.
• Winterizing your home’s irrigation system.
• Washing your car at a commercial car wash because they use recycled water.

Indoor guidelines include:

• Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth.
• Running appliances such as dishwashers and clothes washers only when at full capacity.
• Taking shorter showers.

“Following these guidelines can make a huge difference in our overall water supply,” Walker added. “TWW will continue to monitor Delaware River water levels, including the Pennington Avenue Reservoir, and recommendations from state agencies during this period of drought.”

That revolution was put on hold on Tuesday, Nov. 12, however, when SEPTA officials announced they planned to implement fare increases of 29% as well as an overall 20% in service cuts starting on Jan. 1, 2025. The transit agency said they were forced to implement the new plan after a state budget that would have given them an influx of $161 million was shot down by legislators in Harrisburg.

“Like many other transit agencies across the nation, SEPTA has hit a fiscal cliff because of the pandemic. One-time federal COVID relief funds were used to help cover the day-to-day expenses of running the system, which maintained service during the pandemic and supported the post-pandemic recovery,” a SEPTA spokesperson wrote. “Those funds ran out this past spring, creating a nearly quarter billion-dollar annual budget deficit.”

Officials said the service cuts would eliminate dozens of routes with those that remain operating significantly less.

“The number of overcrowded bus trips during the peak period will double. Reduced service forces the same crowds on to fewer buses – making it impossible to keep buses on schedule, reducing reliability, and increasing the number of people “passed up” by overcrowded buses,” the spokesperson wrote.

Officials also said the cuts will force them to postpone their bus revolution plan.

“With no prospect of a statewide solution to help fund the everyday operating expenses of public transportation systems, SEPTA has no choice but to advance historically high fare increase, service reduction, and postpone implementation of New Bus Network – putting aside years of feedback on how to make the system more useful from thousands of riders across the region,” the spokesperson wrote.

Public hearings on SEPTA’s new fare proposal are scheduled to take place on Dec. 13, 2024, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Amid the announcement of their service cuts and fare increases, SEPTA is also currently deep in negotiations with workers as it looks to avoid a strike.

Camden County’s public information officer confirmed that the cause of the fire was a discarded cigarette due to careless smoking.

The three-alarm fire happened around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Pine Hill Mansions located at 220 West Branch Avenue in Pine Hill, Camden County.

Officials originally told NBC10 that they believed the fire started on a second-floor balcony a little after 6 p.m.

About 16 apartment units were destroyed as a result of the fire, according to Pine Hill Police Department chief Christopher Winters.

Five police officers who rescued residents from inside the building were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, the police chief said. One firefighter was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

“The officers that were transported for smoke inhalation were going door to door making sure people were out. It was very heavy smoke, even two hours later it was heavy smoke,” Chief Winters said.

Police said that all the residents made it out safely and are now in the care of the Red Cross. Nearly 30 people have been displaced due to the fire.

“This is obviously devastating. It’s devastating to the families. When you put that in perspective to the time of year it is it hits home a lot harder,” Winters said.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, some residents were allowed back into their homes for a short time to gather their belongings. One resident recounted what the fire was like for her.

“I came back in the room to get something else, it’s a whole blaze right there in my bedroom window,” Taneka Batchelor, a resident of the apartment, said.

Batchelor was not allowed back into her unit because the stairs on the second level were not stable, officials said.

“I was in shock because I always seen it on TV. It was never in person and in real life. So, it was real scary to me,” Batchelor said. “I’m trying to get shelter for me, my son, my mom and my sister as well. So, we’re all together. So, for me it’s kind of hard right now to say. With the help of God, we definitely going make it.”

The management for the building, SHP Management Corporation, provided both short and long-term housing for residents. They also gave them gift cards for daily necessities like food, clothing and water.

Some residents have made claims that the sprinklers were not working. The management company said it is answering those claims but that the state of New Jersey does not require apartments to have sprinklers.

With 22 touchdowns through 10 weeks so far, Hurts will donate $110,000 to Philadelphia schools as part of his “Keep It Cool Initiative.” Hurts’ foundation reached the $100,000 benchmark during the Eagles’ blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

In 2023, the Keep It Cool Initiative provided air conditioning and electrical infrastructure upgrades for over 5,000 students, staff and teachers in the Philadelphia School District.

At the start of the 2024-25 school year, 63 Philadelphia schools had to dismiss early amid extreme heat due to inadequate air conditioning. Fans can contribute to the Keep It Cool Initiative through the Jalen Hurts Foundation website.

The amusement park will be closing Kingda Ka and Green Lantern coasters to make room for a new “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster” that will debut at Six Flags in 2026.

No additional details were released about the new ride.

Kingda Ka was considered world’s fastest and tallest coaster, according to Six Flags. It would take guests 45 stories in the air and launch from zero to 128 miles per hour in mere seconds. The ride debuted in 2005.

“We understand that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate our guests’ passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and dedication to delivering exceptional new experiences. We look forward to sharing more details next summer,” park president Brian Bacica said in a press release.

Six Flags also announced it will debut The Flash: Vertical Velocity boomerang coaster ride in 2025.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, the Philadelphia City Council passed a bill changing the name of Taney Street to LeCount Street.

In 1858, the street was originally named for Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney after he passed the Dred Scott Decision, which denied citizenship to Black people during slavery.

But now, it will be the first street in the City of Brotherly Love named after a Black woman, Caroline LeCount.

LeCount is known as Philadelphia’s Rosa Parks after she integrated Philadelphia’s trolley carts and fought for desegregation in education.

According to the Rename Taney Coalition, when they knocked on every door on Taney Street, 90 percent of the residents said they agreed with the name change.

Officials said the new street signs will go up next year.

For the 2021-22 season, the Sixers’ Spectrum-style uniform was navy blue. This time, the Sixers will wear white City Edition jerseys featuring the same classic Spectrum color panels down both sides of the uniform. 

The Sixers’ City Edition merchandise went on sale Thursday morning and will first be available at Wells Fargo Center when the Sixers face the Nets on Nov. 22, according to a team press release.

Curtis Bacon, 34, of Coatesville, pled guilty to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals on November 8, 2024, and received a sentence of 13-60 months, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, Brandywine Valley SPCA and Brandywine Valley SPCA Animal Protective Services Unit announced.

In addition, officials said Bacon was sentenced to pay restitution to the SPCA for the veterinary care of Ava and is prohibited from possessing animals or pets in the future.

The investigation began in December of 2023 when South Coatesville Police Department officers and an officer of the BVSPCA APS Unit obtained a search warrant to check Ava’s well-being after receiving a tip that Bacon was abusing the dog, according to officials.

Upon arrival, officials said officers found that Ava was malnourished and withdrawn. Ava was missing her right rear leg, which appeared to have been recently removed, and her left eye was injured.

Officials said Ava was rushed to VRC Malvern, where doctors found that she had numerous injuries, including a traumatic amputation of her lower leg. She also sustained multiple other fractures that healed in abnormal positions and was severely emaciated.

A volunteer for the BVSPCA took in Ava to foster her through treatment and recovery. She was then later adopted after being medically cleared to go home, officials said.

“Thanks to the combined efforts of Brandywine Valley SPCA and the prosecutors in this case, we were able to ensure that the person responsible for torturing a helpless dog was brought to justice,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said in a news release.

“We are grateful to our Humane Law Officers and the entire team at the Chester County DA’s office who have been able to get justice for Ava and ensure no other animals suffer at the hands of her abuser,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA’s Chief Executive Officer. “It’s a miracle Ava survived with the type of injuries she sustained, and sickening to think about the trauma she endured, but we are glad that life of abuse is behind her, and she has a full life ahead of her in a loving home.”

Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University is set to open its doors in March 2025, offering an immersive exploration of dinosaurs and other prehistoric species.

Located at 66 Million Mosasaur Way in Mantua Township, New Jersey, the museum will bring the age of dinosaurs roaring back to life with jaw-dropping exhibits, live animal encounters, and life-sized depictions of epic creatures that roamed the mid-Atlantic seaboard millions of years ago.

Visitors will have the opportunity to dig for real fossils at the only place in the world where you can see a preserved fossil ecosystem from the exact moment of the asteroid impact that marked the end of the dinosaurs.

“In the depths of the quarry, more than 40 feet below the Fossil Park, over 100,000 fossils from more than 100 species, including mosasaurs, marine crocodiles, sea turtles, and sharks, have been unearthed, underscoring the site’s significance,” the museum said in a news release.

The museum will also feature immersive galleries that bring the age of the dinosaurs to life with state-of-the-art reconstructions of giant species and their environments.

A free-roaming VR experience will also be offered along with a museum store, café, theater, scenic nature trails, and a paleontology-themed playground.

“The opening of Edelman Fossil Park & Museum marks a momentous occasion for our region and for visitors from around the world. This is not just a museum—it’s a gateway to a breathtaking chapter of Earth’s history. Here, we open a window onto the profound and pivotal events of the fifth mass extinction, during which the dinosaurs and 75% of species perished, shaping the modern world as we know it,” said Dr. Kenneth Lacovara, founding executive director of the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum. “The fossils unearthed here tell the epic story of life’s fragility and resilience, weaving a cautionary tale that frames our present challenges and provides a roadmap towards a more sustainable tomorrow.”

The museum was made possible by a donation from Rowan University alumni Jean & Ric Edelman.

Of course, Trump can’t formally nominate anyone until he is inaugurated on Jan. 20. However, the Senate can begin hearings on proposed cabinet appointments after it is sworn in on Jan. 3.

Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior

On Thursday, Trump announced that he plans to select North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum as his nominee to be the secretary of the Department of the Interior. The North Dakota governor had become a familiar presence on the campaign trail stumping for Trump, and the president-elect had previously considered selecting him as his running mate before settling on now-vice president-elect JD Vance. Burgum ran a long-shot presidential campaign and dropped out of the race in December 2023 after not qualifying for the most recent debates.

Todd Blanche, Deputy Attorney General

Trump said Thursday he will nominate Todd Blanche, one of his criminal defense lawyers, to be deputy attorney general, NBC News reported. The statement noted that Blanche has experience working for the Justice Department — something former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Trump’s choice for attorney general, does not have.

Doug Collins, Secretary of Veterans Affairs

Doug Collins, a former congressman from Georgia, is Trump’s choice to run the Department of Veterans Affairs. Collins is a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Command. The Republican served in Congress from 2013 to 2021, and he helped defend Trump during his first impeachment process.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services

Trump on Thursday picked Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist who dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Trump, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services. During his presidential campaign, Kennedy developed a national profile for his criticism of the COVID vaccines and childhood immunizations. He has claimed that vaccines are tied to autism, despite evidence conveyed through studies over decades that have disproven such a claim.

Matt Gaetz, Attorney General

Trump on Wednesday said he will nominate Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida to serve as his attorney general, putting a loyalist in the role of the nation’s top prosecutor. In selecting the congressman, Trump passed over some of the more established attorneys whose names had been mentioned as being contenders for the job.

Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence

Also on Wednesday, Trump chose Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic member of Congress and presidential candidate, to serve as director of national intelligence, continuing to stock his Cabinet with loyal personalities complimentary to his own, rather than long-term professionals in their requisite fields. Gabbard, who has served in the Army National Guard for more than two decades, deploying to Iraq and Kuwait, would come to the role as somewhat of an outsider. hasn’t worked directly in the intelligence community, outside of House committees, including two years on the Homeland Security Committee. 

Marco Rubio, Secretary of State

In another appointment announced Monday, Trump named Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida as his nominee for secretary of state on Wednesday, setting up a onetime critic who evolved into one of the president-elect’s fiercest defenders to become the nation’s top diplomat. The conservative lawmaker is a noted hawk on China, Cuba and Iran, and was a finalist to be Trump’s running mate this summer. On Capitol Hill, Rubio is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. 

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, to head new Department of Government Efficiency

Trump named tech billionaire Elon Musk and conservative activist Vivek Ramaswamy on Tuesday to head up a new Department of Government Efficiency, fulfilling a campaign pledge to give Musk sweeping oversight of government spending. Trump said in a statement on to social media that the department will help “dismantle Government Bureaucracy” and slash excess regulations. The name of the agency, DOGE for short, is a reference to a meme and a cryptocurrency associated with Musk.

Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense

Trump said Tuesday that he has chosen Fox News host and Army veteran Pete Hegseth to serve as his defense secretary. Hegseth deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and unsuccessfully ran for Senate in Minnesota in 2012 before joining Fox News.

John Ratcliffe, CIA Director

Earlier Tuesday, Trump announced that he is nominating former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe to lead the Central Intelligence Agency. A former Republican congressman from Texas, Ratcliffe served as director of national intelligence for the final year and a half of Trump’s first term, leading the U.S. government’s spy agencies during the coronavirus pandemic.

Mike Huckabee, US Ambassador to Israel

Trump said Tuesday he intends to nominate former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as the U.S. ambassador to Israel, a high-profile diplomatic posting in a tumultuous region. Huckabee is a staunch defender of Israel and his intended nomination comes as Trump has promised to align U.S. foreign policy more closely with Israel’s interests as it wages wars against the Iran-backed Hamas and Hezbollah. If confirmed, he will be the first non-Jewish person to hold this role since 2011, NBC News reported.

Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

Trump plans to nominate South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem to be the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, four sources familiar with the decision confirmed Tuesday morning. Noem has no significant experience with homeland security issues but has voiced support for Trump’s hard-line immigration policies. She has defended her fellow Republican governors in their efforts to crack down on migrants in their states.

Mike Waltz, National Security Adviser

On Monday, four sources familiar with the decision said Trump has picked Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., to be his national security adviser. Waltz is a Green Beret veteran who served in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. Since 2019, he has represented a congressional district in the House, where he’s a member of the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees.

Lee Zeldin, EPA Administrator

Trump on Monday named former New York congressman Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency as he continues to build out his future administration with loyal supporters. Zeldin, a Republican who mounted a failed bid for governor of New York in 2022, will “ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses,” Trump said in a statement. Zeldin also will maintain “the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet,” Trump said.

Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy

A source with knowledge of the transition team’s plans told NBC News on Monday that Trump is expected to name Stephen Miller as his deputy chief of staff for policy at the White House. Miller, a staunch hard-liner on immigration policy, worked in the White House during Trump’s first term in office, serving both as director of speechwriting and as a senior adviser to the president.

Elise Stefanik, US Ambassador to the United Nations

Trump has tapped House Republican Conference chair and longtime ally Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., to serve as ambassador to the United Nations, a Trump transition official confirmed to NBC News on Monday. Stefanik has been a staunch defender of Israel in its response to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks and has been outspoken over the last year about antisemitism on college campuses. A day before the election, Stefanik reiterated her call for the defunding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East because she alleges it has been infiltrated by Hamas.

Tom Homan, ‘border czar’

On Monday, Trump said that Tom Homan, his former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, will serve as “border czar” in his incoming administration. Homan was widely expected to be offered a position related to the border and Trump’s pledge to launch the largest deportation operation in the country’s history.

Susie Wiles, White House Chief of Staff

Trump’s first appointment came on Nov. 7, when he announced that Susan Wiles, a 67-year-old Florida native, will serve as his White House chief of staff. Wiles is one of the most respected operatives in Republican politics. Along with helping helm Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, she worked as his state director in Florida during the previous two contests.

Dan Scavino, deputy chief of staff

Scavino, whom Trump’s transition referred to in a statement as one of “Trump’s longest serving and most trusted aides,” was a senior adviser to Trump’s 2024 campaign, as well as his 2016 and 2020 campaigns. He will be deputy chief of staff and assistant to the president.

Scavino had run Trump’s social media profile in the White House during his first administration. He was also held in contempt of Congress in 2022 after a month-long refusal to comply with a subpoena from the House committee’s investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

James Blair, deputy chief of staff

Blair was political director for Trump’s 2024 campaign and for the Republican National Committee. He will be deputy chief of staff for legislative, political and public affairs and assistant to the president.

Blair was key to Trump’s economic messaging during his winning White House comeback campaign this year, a driving force behind the candidate’s “Trump can fix it” slogan and his query to audiences this fall if they were better off than four years ago.

Taylor Budowich, deputy chief of staff

Budowich is a veteran Trump campaign aide who launched and directed Make America Great Again, Inc., a super PAC that supported Trump’s 2024 campaign. He will be deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel and assistant to the president.

Budowich also had served as a spokesman for Trump after his presidency.

William McGinley, White House counsel

McGinley was White House Cabinet secretary during Trump’s first administration, and was outside legal counsel for the Republican National Committee’s election integrity effort during the 2024 campaign.

In a statement, Trump called McGinley “a smart and tenacious lawyer who will help me advance our America First agenda, while fighting for election integrity and against the weaponization of law enforcement.”

Steven Witkoff, special envoy to the Middle East

The 67-year-old Witkoff is the president-elect’s golf partner and was golfing with him at Trump’s club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sept. 15, when the former president was the target of a second attempted assassination.

Witkoff “is a Highly Respected Leader in Business and Philanthropy,” Trump said of Witkoff in a statement. “Steve will be an unrelenting Voice for PEACE, and make us all proud.”

Trump also named Witkoff co-chair, with former Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler, of his inaugural committee.

The Kennel Club of Philadelphia – presenter of dog shows since 1879 – will host the 2024 National Dog Show this weekend, Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17.

You can start getting family photos with Santa (including pet-friendly Mondays) on Saturday, Nov. 23. Here’s how to reserve your spot. However, the party starts the night before with a party and parade outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Visitors can visit Santa free of charge, but will need to buy a photo package if they’re interested in taking photos. Visitors can also take the moment to purchase gifts from Santa’s toy shop. Reservations are recommended and can be purchased online.

Cheerful people can join in the holiday fun with a mall-wide Christmas Parade — featuring a balloon drop — on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 10:30 a.m.

The U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick is headed for a statewide recount, as counties continued Wednesday to sort through outstanding ballots and the campaigns jousted over which ones should count.

The Associated Press called the race for McCormick last week, concluding that not enough ballots remained to be counted in areas Casey was winning for him to take the lead. However, NBC News has not yet declared a winner calling the race “too close to call.”

A noon deadline passed Wednesday for Casey to waive his right to a statewide recount and Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro’s top election official, Secretary of State Al Schmidt, a Republican, announced that preliminary results had triggered a legally-required statewide recount.

As of Friday morning, McCormick led by about 24,000 votes out of more than 6.9 million ballots counted — inside the 0.5% margin threshold to trigger an automatic statewide recount under Pennsylvania law.

Counties must begin the recount no later than Nov. 20 and must finish by noon on Nov. 26. It largely involves running paper ballots through high-speed scanners, a process that former election officials say might not change the outcome by more than a few hundred votes.

”It is an infinitesimal number, compared to the overall vote totals,” said Jeff Greenburg, a former Mercer County elections director.

Meanwhile, McCormick was in Washington this week, attending Senate orientation and caucus meetings to pick a new leader after Republicans won control of the U.S. Senate in last week’s election that saw Donald Trump win the White House.

Casey hasn’t conceded and, while Republicans pressure him on social media, his campaign manager said in a statement Wednesday that “McCormick and his allies are trying to disenfranchise Pennsylvania voters.”

Adam Bonin, a lawyer representing the Casey campaign in Philadelphia, said Republicans were aggressively and systematically challenging the provisional ballots of registered Democrats, delaying the vote counting process.

“What we are seeing this year is more organized, more disciplined, more directed and more comprehensive than what we saw in 2020,” Bonin said.

McCormick’s campaign consultant, Mark Harris, said large Democratic-controlled counties were dragging out the process by not adding the results of processed ballots to vote totals.

The McCormick campaign was challenging provisional ballots that it is allowed to challenge under the law, Harris said.

“This is clearly an effort to use lawfare to chip away at our lead,” Harris said. “This is not going to work. Dave McCormick is the senator-elect and will be the senator.”

Counties, meanwhile, were busy Wednesday processing tens of thousands of provisional ballots and hearing challenges to some of them by lawyers for Casey, McCormick and the state parties. A provisional ballot is typically cast at a polling place on Election Day and is separated from regular ballots in cases when elections workers need more time to determine a voter’s eligibility to vote.

Litigation is possible. For instance, Bucks County’s Democratic-majority election board voted to count more than 400 mail-in ballots that lack a correct handwritten date on the outer envelope — something that Republicans are challenging and have opposed repeatedly in court.

Bucks County’s decision is in line with various decisions in state and federal courts that have deemed it unconstitutional or illegal to throw out such ballots. But higher courts — including the state Supreme Court most recently on Nov. 1 — have blocked those decisions, with litigation still pending.

The remains are believed to be those of 12-year-old Delisha Africa, one of five children and six adults killed when police bombed the MOVE organization’s headquarters, causing a fire that spread to dozens of rowhomes on May 13, 1985.

The remains were discovered during a comprehensive inventory that the Penn Museum conducted to prepare thousands of artifacts, some dating back more than a century, to be moved into upgraded storage facilities.

In 2021, museum officials acknowledged that the university had retained bones from at least one bombing victim after helping with the forensic identification process in the wake of the bombing. A short time later, the city notified family members that there was a box of remains at the medical examiner’s office that had been kept after the autopsies were completed.

The museum said it’s not known how the remains found this week were separated from the rest, and it immediately notified the child’s family upon the discovery.

“We are committed to full transparency with respect to any new evidence that may emerge,” Penn Museum said in a statement on its website.

“Confronting our institutional history requires ever-evolving examination of how we can uphold museum practices to the highest ethical standards. Centering human dignity and the wishes of descendant communities govern the current treatment of human remains in the Penn Museum’s care.”

Civil rights attorneys Bakari Sellers and Daniel Hartstein — who represent Lionell Dotson, whose sister Katricia was killed in the 1985 MOVE bombing — claimed that Delisha Africa’s remains turned up “despite repeated assurances” that all the remains from the bombing were returned to families.

“For nearly 40 years, the City of Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Museum have refused to treat the MOVE Bombing victims or their families with the even most basic level of respect and decency and this latest revelation is just the most recent in a long line of atrocities Black folks in America have had to live with,” the attorneys said in a Nov. 14, 2024 statement from the Strom Law Firm. “We are disgusted and disappointed but, unfortunately, we are not surprised.

“The damage Penn has done is absolutely appalling and unforgivable. It’s time they did the right thing so these children can finally rest in peace.”

MOVE members, led by founder John Africa, practiced a lifestyle that shunned modern conveniences, preached equal rights for animals and rejected government authority. The group clashed with police and many of their practices drew complaints from neighbors.

Police seeking to oust members from their headquarters used a helicopter to drop a bomb on the house on May 13, 1985. More than 60 homes in the neighborhood burned to the ground as emergency personnel were told to stand down.

A 1986 commission report called the decision to bomb an occupied row house “unconscionable.” MOVE survivors were awarded a $1.5 million judgment in a 1996 lawsuit.

According to police, on Sunday, Nov. 10, surveillance video captured four individuals entering the store with two large Nike bags and filling them with merchandise.

Police said the suspects quickly fled the store without paying and set off all the exit alarms. They stole $1,841.00 worth of items.

Investigators said the sledgehammer-wielding thieves targeted corner stores in North Philadelphia on Halloween 2024. There’s concern they could strike again, so police released surveillance video and photos in hopes of getting help to get the robbers off the streets.

It was certainly a scary scene inside the 7 Day’s Store two weeks ago on Halloween morning. Surveillance video shows three thieves slamming their way into the business on the corner of North 29th and West Cumberland Streets around 2:20 a.m.

Once inside, investigators say two of the men flashed guns, and quickly went to work stealing whatever they could, police said. You could even see one guy emptying the register.

Investigators believe the same robbers then hit the AK Convenience Store store at North 29th and West York streets a few hours later.

“The workers they afraid because of what happened,” a store worker who was too scared to show his face said. “We try our best to secure the business as much as we could to keep the workers safe.”

The store worker said he believes the thieves first watched his business, before busting in and attacking a worker. He said they had a lookout outside. This time one showed a knife.

We were told two robbers then forced him to the basement, possibly looking for a safe.

“Yeah he was begging them, take whatever you want, just don’t do anything to me,” the worker said. “He was begging them. He wanted to stay alive.”

According to police, no one was hurt that morning.

Investigators released photos and videos, hoping someone recognizes these guys.

Police release these descriptions of the thieves:

• Suspect 1: Male, unknown race, wearing all dark clothing, striped mask, blue gloves and armed with a handgun.
• Suspect 2: Male, unknown race, wearing a light color hooded sweatshirt, black jacket, gray pants and brown boots.
• Suspect 3: Male, unknown race, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black “Nike” sweatpants, gray “New Balance” sneakers and armed with a handgun.

Craig Melvin, who has been with NBC News for nearly 14 years, is moving into the co-anchor seat alongside Savannah Guthrie for the 7 and 8 a.m. hours. He will begin Monday, Jan. 13, after Hoda says goodbye to her morning duties on Friday, Jan. 10.

TODAY’s fourth hour, co-hosted by Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager since April 2019, will debut as TODAY with Jenna & Friends on Jan. 13 until a permanent co-host is named. The show will feature a rotating cast of fill-in co-hosts, new games and much more.

TODAY will be celebrating Hoda throughout her final shows in January.

Hoda emotionally shared on TODAY Sept. 26 that she felt that it was time to move on from the show, a decision she felt moved to make after celebrating her 60th birthday in August.

“I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60, and to try something new,” she said. “I remembered standing outside looking at these beautiful bunch of people with these gorgeous signs, and I thought, ‘This is what the top of the wave feels like for me.’ And I thought it can’t get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on.”

At the time of Hoda’s announcement, Craig shared his admiration for Hoda’s authenticity on and off the camera.

“People in this business, when that little red light, it goes off, they’re different people,” Craig said. “We’ve worked with all these people before. You’re the opposite. That little red light goes off, you are exactly like people see you in the morning — just the biggest heart.

Some evidence that a federal judge had excluded from the bribery trial of former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez was inadvertently put on a computer given to jurors, federal prosecutors revealed Wednesday, though they insisted it should have no effect on the Democrat’s conviction.

The prosecutors told Judge Sidney H. Stein in a letter that they recently discovered the error which caused a laptop computer to contain versions of several trial exhibits that did not contain the full redactions Stein had ordered.

Menendez, 70, resigned from the Senate in August after his July conviction on 16 charges, including bribery, extortion, honest services fraud, obstruction of justice and conspiracy. He was forced to give up his post as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee after he was charged in the case in fall 2023.

He awaits a sentencing scheduled for Jan. 29 after a trial that featured allegations that he accepted bribes of gold and cash from three New Jersey businessmen and acting as an agent for the Egyptian government. Two businessmen were convicted with him while a third testified against him in a cooperation deal.

His lawyers did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

In their letter, prosecutors said incorrect versions of nine government exhibits were missing some redactions ordered by Stein to ensure that the exhibits did not violate the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause, which protects speech relating to information shared by legislators.

Prosecutors told Stein Wednesday that no action was necessary in light of the error for several reasons, including that defense lawyers did not object after they inspected documents on that laptop before it was given to jurors.

They also said there was a “reasonable likelihood” that no jurors saw the erroneously redacted versions of the exhibits and that the documents could not have prejudiced the defendants even if they were seen by jurors, in part because they were of “secondary relevance and cumulative with abundant properly admitted evidence.”

Menendez has indicated he plans to appeal his conviction. He also has filed papers with Stein seeking an acquittal or new trial. Part of the grounds for acquittal he cited was that prosecutors violated his right as a lawmaker to speech and debate.

“The government walked all over the Senator’s constitutionally protected Speech or Debate privilege in an effort to show that he took some official action, when in reality, the evidence showed that he never used the authority of his office to do anything in exchange for a bribe,” his lawyers wrote.

“Despite a 10-week trial, the government offered no actual evidence of an agreement, just speculation masked as inference,” they said.

Menendez was appointed to be a U.S. senator in 2006 when the seat opened up after incumbent Jon Corzine became governor. He was elected outright in 2006 and again in 2012 and 2018.

The Return Board will be meeting on Friday, Nov. 15 at Noon to review provisional ballots for the 2024 general election.

Some ballots are being challenged by a political party or candidate while others are under a sufficiency review.

This comes as the race for Senate triggered an automatic recount in Pennsylvania.

The scammers have sent text messages that claim a SNAP recipient’s EBT card has been deactivated and directs them to call a number. The messages have also been sent to people who are not SNAP recipients.

“If someone is claiming to be from or affiliated with the Department and they are asking you for your personal information, it is a scam,” Pennsylvania DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh wrote in a statement.

Dr. Arkoosh said the DHS will never ask for personal information in an unsolicited text message, email or phone call.

The DHS also said it would never ask for the following details in a text message:

• Details about a person’s benefits, such as the amount of SNAP they are authorized to receive
• A request for specific personal information
• A request to visit links to unofficial websites. Most DHS texts will direct people to a .gov or .org site

The Pennsylvania DHS will only reach out to people who receive SNAP, Medicaid and other benefits from the following number: 1-833-648-1964.

With the unofficial results within half of a percentage between the two candidates, a recount of all Pennsylvania ballots has been triggered, according to Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt.

As of 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, Senator Bob Casey has 48.5% of the popular vote while Dave McCormick holds 48.93% of the vote.

The recount is expected to cost taxpayers over $1 million.

All of the counties in the state must finish their original counting of the ballots before starting the recount, officials said. The recount must begin in one week on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The office said that the results of the recount will not be shared with the public until Nov. 27.

“Senator-Elect McCormick’s lead is insurmountable, which the AP made clear in calling the race. A recount will be a waste of time and taxpayer money, but it is Senator Casey’s prerogative. Senator-Elect McCormick knows what it’s like to lose an election and is sure Senator Casey will eventually reach the right conclusion,” a spokesperson for the McCormick campaign said in a statement.

This automatic recount has been part of the state’s law since 2004 and has been triggered four other times before in previous elections.

The previous recounts were:

• 2022 primary: Mehmet Oz vs. Dave McCormick in Republican race for U.S. Senate that cost $1,052,609
• 2021 general: Lori Dumas vs. Drew Crompton for Commonwealth Court that cost $1,117,180
• 2011 primary: Kathryn Boockvar vs. Barbara Ernsberger in the Democratic race for Commonwealth Court that cost $525,006.70
• 2009 general: Anne Lazarus vs. Robert Colville vs. Templeton Smith in Superior Court race that cost $541,698.56

Philadelphia International Airport is set to welcome two popular local brands next year: Federal Donuts & Chicken and Oyster House.

The Philadelphia-founded eateries will be added to MarketPlace PHL’s PHL Food & Shops concessions program in spring 2025.

“Our team is thrilled to launch these famous Philly brands with PHL Food & Shops,” Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL Mel Hannah said in a news release. “Having operated restaurants for several decades in Center City and on City Avenue, we understand the potential and prestige of PHL as well as what it takes to have long-term success in Philadelphia.”

Federal Donuts & Chicken was founded in 2011 by James Beard Award-winning restaurateurs Chef Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook.

The airport location will be Federal Donut’s 12th store, featuring donuts, fried chicken, and coffee.

For over 40 years, Oyster House — owned by Sam Mink — has been a Philadelphia staple for everything seafood. The airport storefront will be its first satellite location.

Construction is already underway to build the two new storefronts as Philadelphia International Airpot is expected to have record-breaking travel in 2026 thanks to Philadelphia250, the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, NCAA March Madness, the PGA Championship and so much more.

“There’s no shortage of exceptional foodie brands across the Delaware Valley, and even more ‘Founded in Philly’ announcements are coming soon,” Mel added. “With a huge 2026 on the way, we are excited to announce the addition of these two locations, with more to come.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, the Philadelphia Department of Streets and the Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (OTIS) released the Temporary Bike Access Routes (TBAR) guide for developers and any other entities in charge of construction projects that interfere with existing bike lanes.

“The goal of the TBAR guide is to provide guidance to protect people biking with safe accommodations in active construction zones without being diverted into traffic or onto sidewalks,” Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi said. “This is our city’s first standard and guideline for accommodating people biking during street construction.” 

The guidelines include side paths, parking separated bike lanes, separated bike lanes and painted bike lanes. It also features requirements for all construction projects in the city, including the following:

• Temporary bike facilities must guide people biking past the work zone rather than closing the facility itself and detouring onto another street.
• Temporary bike facilities must remain clear of any hazards, including construction equipment, vehicles, debris, etc.
• Temporary bike facilities must be established when construction commences. In the event of emergency work, the requirements must be met within three (3) days.

Operators of construction projects that don’t follow the requirements could face fines or the removal of their permits, city officials said. Residents who witness any potential violations in construction areas should report it on the Philly311 website or call 311.

Officials held the annual Philly Holiday Experience press conference as the city’s holiday tree arrived on the north side of City Hall early Wednesday morning.

The 55-year-old tree arrived in a flatbed truck from Yule Tre Farms in Hornell, New York, and had to be hoisted into position by crane in the evening.

Philadelphia's Christmas Village is back in 2024: Here's your guide to fun

Crews will spend the next few weeks decorating it and preparing the area for the official lighting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Can’t wait that long for fun holiday festivities? Well, across the way, Christmas Village is already back, turning Center City into an open-air German Christmas market with more than 120 vendors.

According to police, the plaque — which is dedicated to Officer Charles Knox, who was killed in the line of duty in 1992 — was reported missing around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Police said an officer was on routine patrol and noticed the plaque was removed from its original spot on the sidewalk on the 2000 block of S. Broad St.

The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and management at the nearby Walgreens store confirmed that no permission was granted for the plaque’s removal, police said.

Police said photographs of the site showed a significant amount of dirt and debris, suggesting the plaque may have been missing for an extended period.

According to police, investigators are reviewing footage from area Real-Time Crime Center cameras to determine if any evidence can be found regarding the plaque’s disappearance.

“The Philadelphia Police Department is committed to preserving the memory of our fallen officers,” Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel said in a news release. “We are taking this matter very seriously and are asking anyone with information to please come forward.”

The plaque — which was set in the ground — reads, “In memory of Police Officer Charles T. Knox. Died in the line of duty protecting the citizens of Philadelphia on August 30, 1992. Dedicated by his Family and Friends.”

Police said Knox had been fatally shot while responding to an armed robbery at a Roy Roger’s restaurant located at 1401 Snyder Ave.

Upon entering the establishment, police said Knox encountered a suspect holding a firearm to the head of the manager. He commanded the suspect to drop the weapon, but the individual instead lunged at him.

A second suspect emerged from the manager’s office behind Knox during the struggle, according to police. The individual placed a handgun beneath Knox’s vest and fired a shot that caused him to fall to the ground.

While Knox lay face-up, the suspect fired again, striking him in the cheek and taking his life, police said. Both suspects were later captured and received life sentences for their roles in the murder.

Knox had spent two years with the Philadelphia Police Department.

FOP is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in the missing memorial plaque.

“I’m saddened and angered that someone would allegedly steal a missing memorial plaque dedicated to one of our beloved heroes, officer Charles Knox.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Knox family on this sad day. Knox served our great city with integrity and professionalism and is sorely missed by his friends and colleagues in the Philadelphia police department.”
