The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season brought record rainfall for the date to eastern and southeastern Pennsylvania, shattering a century-old record in Philadelphia, and spawned stream flooding that displaced some residents, but no major damage was immediately reported.

The National Weather Service says Andrea dumped three and a half inches of rain at Philadelphia International Airport, eclipsing the previous June 7 record of 1.79 inches set in 1904.

The 1.82 inches recorded at Lehigh Valley International Airport near Allentown was also a new record for the date, far above the 1.19 inches set in 1948.

The American Red Cross of southeastern Pennsylvania said about 50 families were displaced in Chester, Delaware County, but a shelter set up Friday night was closed after no one showed up.

Concerns over flooding also caused city officials to advise around 100 people in Chester to leave their homes Friday night. Some decided to stay however.
