Spring in December? Record-Breaking Warmth Hits Region

Winter is less than two weeks away yet you wouldn’t know it based on how warm it is in the Philadelphia region right now.

Temperatures reached 71 degrees Sunday, breaking the old record of 65. This was only a day after the region broke another record with a high of 69 Saturday. The average temperature for this time of year is 46 degrees.

We may also hit record-breaking temperatures Monday as well with an expected high of 70 degrees. With that warmth will come some rain late Monday night. There will be a slight drop in temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures in the low 60s and high 50s before more seasonable temperatures move in Friday with a high of 48.

The warm weather was a big change for those participating in this year’s Santa Run in Philadelphia Saturday. The only one who was having trouble coping with the warmth was an ice sculptor who had to work much faster than normal.

“My strategy is to work quickly,” he said. “In weather like this you don’t have to do too much polishing. Ice will polish itself.”
