Philly Sees Wettest June on Record

It won't surprise anyone in Philadelphia _  but forecasters say this month has been the wettest June on record in the City of Brotherly Love.

The National Weather Service says the total rainfall as of late Friday night was 10.11 inches.

That surpassed the previous wettest June rainfall record of 10.06 inches set in 1938. Records for the city date back to 1872.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says three of the city's wettest Junes have occurred in the last 11 years, with the 8.08 inches in 2003 ranking third on the list and the 7.95 inches in 2006 coming in fifth.

Forecasters say additional rainfall is expected that will push the monthly total up before the end of the month.
