Hermine Poses Threat to Small Boats Off New Jersey Coast

Forecasters said small vessels should avoid navigating off New Jersey's coast as Hermine swirls in the Atlantic.

The National Weather Service says a small craft advisory is in place off the New Jersey coast until noon with wind gusts up to nearly 40 mph possible.

The advisory means that small vessels could face dangers from high waves that could reach 3 to 6 feet. The service says small boats should avoid navigating while the advisory is effect.

The storm weakened but lingered as it churned in the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday. Forecasters said it could continue to affect coastal areas of southern New England with high surf and dangerous riptides through Thursday. [[287977901, C]]
