Will ‘Bill' Wash Out Your Father's Day Plans?

Will your Father’s Day plans go off without a hitch or will what remains of a tropical storm dampen your day?

The remnants of Bill moved into the Philadelphia region late Saturday night bringing heavy rain a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that led to the evacuation of the Firefly Music Festival grounds in Dover, Delaware. Tropical-like downpours will produce 1 to 3 inches of rain. Be cautious as stream and creek flooding is possible.

As the storm arrived, the National Weather Service issued Severe Thunderstorm Watches until early Sunday for parts of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania; Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties in New Jersey; and Kent and New Castle counties in Delaware. And they issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the southern part of Delaware including where Firefly is held.

The widespread heavy rain, including thunderstorms, will last through Sunday morning.

"The biggest concern will be localized flooding due to a lot of rain in a relatively short amount of time. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the entire region... through Sunday evening," said NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist Michelle Grossman.

Models differ if points to the north or south of Philly will see the heaviest rain -- totals could drastically differ just miles apart.

“Most of the heavy rain will be gone by the time people wake up and have their (Father’s Day) plans,” said NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist Sheena Parveen. “... The biggest concern will be while people are sleeping.”

"Skies will begin to clear early Sunday morning and we may see the sun in spots later for any Father’s Day plans," said Michelle.

Expect more scattered showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the day Sunday with hot and humid conditions with temperatures into the upper 80s.

People sleeping at the Firefly Festival in Dover were asked to take down campsites as seek shelter in their cars.
