Firefighters Save Puppy That Fell Through Icy Lake in New Jersey

Firefighters rescued a 6-month-old German Shepherd that fell through the ice on a New Jersey lake Friday, authorities say.

The pup fell into Lindy's Lake in West Milford about 75 yards from the shore line shortly after 8 a.m.

Video of the rescue shows the pup desperately paddling far out in the lake as rescuers tied to harnesses crawl out on the snow-covered surface to reach the dog.

The two firefighters made their way out to the terrified pooch and tried to rescue the puppy, but the puppy was scared and tried to attack both rescuers, officials said. They didn't give up -- and soon the puppy was pulled out of the water.

Once out of the water, the pooch shakes the water off and seems a little wobbly on its feet, then starts trotting around on the snow-covered part of the lake. Eventually, the pup is reunited with its owner.
