Beware of Flooding This Weekend

We're expecting minor to moderate and even major flooding in parts of the area Friday into Saturday.

Along the Brandywine Creek below Downingtown expect major flooding as the creek crests at 2 a.m. Friday.

Expect moderate flooding Friday along the Neshaminy Creek in Langhorne, the Delaware River near Easton, Chester Creek at Chester and Brandywine Creek at Chadds Ford.

Minor flooding could happen in areas like New Hope, Pemberton, Trenton, and along the Schuylkill from Reading to Philly.

On Thursday night the Delaware River already was over its banks in Bristol Borough, Bucks County. And Flood Warnings for small streams were in effect for all Pennsylvania Counties and New Castle County, Del. There is also a Coastal Flood Warning along the Delaware River in South Jersey.

And in low-lying areas like Yardley and Manayunk businesses and residents were getting ready for the floodwaters even if major flooding wasn't expected.

A line of very heavy thunderstorms moved through Thursday night, but the sun will be out Friday morning, though water will continue to rise in area creeks and rivers.

Flooding Forecast:

  • Friday a.m. - Creek flooding possible
  • Saturday a.m. - any Schuylkill and Delaware River flooding, which is expected to be minor

When heading out Friday morning the best bet is to check traffic reports before you go near local streams, rivers and creeks.
