SEPTA buses were stranded during the snowstorm and on Thursday some of the buses still needed digging out. (Published Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011)

When your bus gets stuck in the snow in white out conditions, it doesn't leave you with a whole lot of options.

150 SEPTA buses were stuck in Wednesday night's snowstorm, according to Heather Redfern, a spokeswoman for SEPTA. And that left some passengers stuck too -- for hours.

"Passengers were able to leave the buses if they wanted," Redfern told us in an email. "However, some elected to stay on the buses. Those that chose to stay on the buses were there until the vehicles were able to be rescued. Unfortunately with the road conditions, that did take some time."

Three of the buses got stuck in front of Wenda Guzman-Freeman's house. She took a picture and posted it on our weather Facebook page, explaining that the buses had been there since 9:30 p.m.

"It is now 2:44 a.m. and these buses are still here... The bus upfront has about 10 passengers...two of them kids under the age of five..."

Riders stuck on the bus did get "warm shelter," according to Redfern.

Thursday morning there were still about 45 buses waiting for assistance. By noon six buses were still stuck.
