Fiery Crash Snarls Traffic on Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension in Bucks County

Wreck leaves 1 hurt

A fiery wreck caused the closure of a busy section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension Friday morning and landed one person in the hospital.

A northbound sport utility vehicle went off the roadway and burst into flames in Milford Township, Bucks County between the Lansdale and Quakertown interchanges around 9:30 a.m., said police.

No word yet on the extent of injuries but police called in a medical helicopter to transport a victim to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest in Allentown.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 476 were closed and police warned that there could be intermittent closures of the southbound lanes as they worked to clear the scene. After a short while, however, traffic began to squeeze by the crash.

Route 309 could be used as an alternate route.

As SkyForce10 hovered overhead following the wreck, the charred remains of the crashed SUV remained on the side of the highway.
