Truck Driver Dies in Crash Along New Jersey Turnpike

A crash involving an overturned truck left a driver dead and caused police to close the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike for hours Monday morning.

The box truck collided with another vehicle around 3:35 a.m. near Exit 2 (Route 322 – Swedesboro) in Gloucester County.

New Jersey State Police Trooper Alina Spies said that the truck overturned after it was rear-ended by a pickup truck, which went onto the right shoulder of the highway.

A utility truck then rammed into the overturned truck, killing the driver of the utility truck, according to police.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police expected it to take a while to reopen the road. During the closure, Interstate 295 could be used as an alternate since police closed the roadway all the way up at Exit 4.

Approaching the closure, a dump truck overturned causing more traffic troubles.
