New Jersey Transit Union Workers to Vote on New Contract

Unions representing rail workers are expected to vote this week on a tentative agreement with New Jersey Transit.

Labor and management reached the agreement Friday night, about 24 hours before a strike deadline. Commuters had been bracing for a major disruption at the start of the work week.

More than 4,000 workers are affected by the contract.

Gov. Chris Christie praised both sides last Friday for their willingness to negotiate in good faith. The unions have been working without a contract since the last one expired in mid-2011.

Union officials haven't released details of the tentative agreement.
